Dongkrak Antik is, without doubt, one of the best movies of Warkop DKI. Made in 1982, it was released in the prime of life of Warkop comedy group. To those of you who already familiar with Mat Solar in the TV series “Bajaj Bajuri” prepare yourself for a shocker on how Mat Solar looked like back in 1982... He's as thin as wallpaper! Really?! Yup...
This time, Dono, Kasino, Indro and mat solar work as internship employees at a quite prestigious hotel managed by Paulus (Pietrajaya Burnama). Quite different with the other installments of Warkop, this comedy movie features only a single pretty girl Sri Anunia (Meriam Bellina) who properly wears all-of—her clothes. In a meaning that in this entry of Warkop huge movie series, we won't see skimpy-clothed girls but what we get it pure comedy entertainment.
Every scene really counts here. Indro is a stammer who drives everyone crazy just to wait him finish a single sentence, and Kasino who is really materialistic, Dono who is a very absentminded and neglectful person who could easily forget every task ordered in just a couple of minutes, and of course the skinny mat solar who has severe hearing difficulty. These four men combined would make chaos in the hotel and it is getting worse when Dono is assigned to be the tourist guide for several tourists looking for interesting places to see in Jakarta.
Dono is explaining the Istiqlal Mosque to the tourists
Their goofiness create more and more problems by the day that really test the patience of their manager Paulus to the highest level possible. Paulus for the most past is the main victim here, plus he also competes with Dono to win Sri Anunia’s attention, so Dono, Kasino and Indro plot a plan to play a prank on their boss by alluring him to a mystical grave!
One of the best things about this movie is that you could see how beautiful Jakarta was back in the early 80s, how peaceful it was, and how the surrounding area of Istiqlal Mosque and National Monument (Monas) looked like. But not just that, Dongkrak Antik has this hospitality charm written all over it, the jokes are good, the pace is not too fast and not too slow and the final scene where Dono, Kasino, Indro and Mat Solar are singing songs to amuse the tourists is very memorable. In this movie also, you will get to see and hear the catchy bird song that's sang when the guys are learning how to dance under the guidance of Sri Anunia.
Dongkrak Antik is a funny movie indeed and the VCD delivers good video quality. Highly recommended for everyone especially Warkop Fans. It's also an appropriate film for children since it would have been rated G (general) or at least PG-13 if it ever had gone to MPAA. Highly recommended...
