Review of the Movie
Gantian Dong was the second movie released in year 1985, in the same year as Kesempatan dalam Kesempitan. It features many Indonesian beautiful actresses such as Ira Wibowo, Lia Warokka, Chintami Atmanegara, Lelly Sagita, Wieke Widowati.
Indro, Dono and Kasino are once again role as college students who also work part-time at a local restaurant but basically they just do nothing and think nothing but to have fun. One day while they are having lunch at the cafeteria of fictional “Mawas Diri” university, they decide to embark on a vacation at the beach with their girlfriends. Down at the beach, they even have the time to make an enemy with a burly visitor. Other interesting scenes are Kasino who try to get a girlfriend through an amateur-

radio, a once big phenomena in the 80s, Dono who try to date Lola and Indro who is so tired of his job that simply just want to hit the sack.
The jokes here are quite funny, but the biggest drawback is the plot. It really, and I mean really is not correlated. Everything seems to be cut from a bunch of whole entirely different movies. Let me put it this way, I like to drink coffee, tea, and coconut ice or whatever, but not to drink them all in a single glass! That would be horrible!
So to enjoy this indonesian comedy movie, you just have to forget the existence of the plot, because there a couple of things of this movie worth watching. It features a very rare local song which I haven’t heard of them anymore nowadays, a song might be entitled “Sedang apa sedang apa sekarang?” (loosely translated: what are you doing now?) And a song written by the late Farid Hardja, labeled “Bercinta Diudara” (loosely translated: dating on air).
Unfortunately the video quality of its VCD is so poor nevertheless if you like their jokes, and want to know better about the 80s, and of course you don’t mind the absent of the plot, then this film will suit you just fine.
