Gee eeR was released back in year 1980, and it can be considered as a part of a Trilogy. A trilogy directed entirely by Nawi Ismail and comprises of Mana Tahan, Gee eeR and Gengsi Dong (1980). I call it as a Trilogy not because that the story is interconnected but because these three comedy movies share exactly the same theme with one distinctive difference compared to other Warkop installments. What could that be? Dono, Kasino and Indro used screen names! And not their real names! Moreover, the screen names that they used are the same in all those three films, which are Slamet, Sanwani and Paijo.

However, if its necessary, Gee eeR could be considered as a sequel to the first Warkop movie, Mana Tahan (1979), with some actors playing the same characters and with several key changes in other characters as well.

In Gee eeR, Kasino reprises his role as Sanwani, Indro as Paijo, Dono as Slamet and the role of Poltak is now played by Dorman Borisman replacing Nanu Mulyono. Somehow being continued from where the story in Mana Tahan left off, Sanwani is now a successful businessman, Paijo also has successfully become a dermatologist, Slamet dropped off from college due to financial problem and he is currently living like a tramp, while Poltak becomes assistant to dr. Paijo. Sanwani was forced to get married soon by his parents, and this is where the difference from Mana Tahan exist, now Rahayu Effendi roles as Sanwani's mother, whereas in Mana Tahan she is the owner of the boarding house where the guys live. Sanwani is actually desperate to marry the girl of his dream, Linda (a Dangdut singer, Itje Trisnawati), but he's got a sexual disease and so he goes to see a doctor who turns out to be his old friend dr. Paijo. After that Sanwani offers Slamet and Poltak, whom he meets at the hospital, to stay with him. Things got a little complicated when Sanwani's younger sister Pratiwi (Ita Mustafa) comes home from abroad and stays also with him. Slamet who secretly has a crush on Pratiwi must compete with dr. Paijo whose Pratiwi actually has a crush on.

Gee eeR is more suitable to be categorized into a drama musical genre. Yes I'm pretty sure Warkop intended this film to be a comedy but the scripted jokes is feeble, just like when Gombloh dials the wrong number and accidentally contact the fire station instead of dr. Paijo. Another type of joke is the ones that are forced too hard to be funny, like when Dono accidentally drops his knife that hits his foot. And the last type of joke would be downright...unfunny. On the other hand we could see some of the actors/actresses sing, there are 4 total singing scenes where Itje Trisnawati sings while Kasino dances, Dorman Borisman, Ita Mustafa, and Dono each sings a song. This is however is not unlikely in Warkop other movies but then again with boring jokes, the singing scenes does compensate quite nicely for the major flaws.

With lackluster directing and uninspiring dialogue, Gee eeR was just another entry in Warkop's franchise and probably serves better as a collectible item for die-hard fans of Warkop.
