In just 2 years time, Warkop has already released 4 movies. Entering year third, Warkop amused Indonesian moviegoers with this movie. Judging by the title I guess you could already tell this comedy is a spoof flick about the famous TV-series from U.S. It's none other than a spoof from 6 Million Dollar Man. In Manusia 6.000.000 Dollar (or Manusia 6 Juta Dollar), Warkop guys are back with three regular faces from previous Warkop's flicks, the sexy Eva Arnaz, Eddy Gombloh and Dorman Borisman.

The storyline is, well pretty much about the heroic acts of Manusia 6 Juta Dollar as well as a short story of his history. Dono is the Manusia 6 Juta Dollar. Dono is used to be an ordinary special agent but on one day while chasing a robber Dono was almost killed by the robber's accomplices who run him over with their cars. Dono's leader Oskar Kasino (Kasino) chooses to save him even though it means Dono has to be transformed into a mechanical human which cost exactly 6 million dollars. In another place, Kontet (loosely translated as Shorty) or the King of Kidnap, who has kidnapped 103 people, sends his thugs to kidnap Rita Aduhai Merdubanget (in English probably Rita Oh-my Her-voice-is-so-good), an up-and-coming singer who supposed to be singing in front of her fans in short time to come. Kontet's plan is to get the ransom money from Rita's show organizer, Don Sobiz (Hamid Arif) or as he puts it, The King of Show, who fears that Rita's fans would tear him into pieces if Rita doesn't get to the show on time. Kasino immediately deploys the new Dono along with Spion 6,000 (Indro) and Spion 600 (Dorman Borisman) to rescue Rita (Eva Arnaz) and brings her back in piece right on time.
Very different with the majority of Warkop's movies where Dono is always the one with the baddest luck or the clumsiest or the stupidest, but this time He's the man. And I've gotta say it's actually nice to see role changing like this sometimes. Dono has enlivened the main protagonist character very well, seeing him in this role makes me sometimes forget that he has already been typecast for being a naive guy almost all the time (and will also in next Warkop's films). But still, there's a scene where he looks like a fool with white powder all over his face.

Warkop DKI: Manusia 6 Juta Dollar film still 2

The storyline is also different from the previous films where the story seem revolves only around love and stuff like that, Manusia 6 Juta Dollar is actually an action movie that's heavy on comedy. And speaking of the jokes, yes, there is only a couple of laugh-out-loud moments and a fair amount of chuckling, but the pace is enjoyable and the story itself is quite interesting. We could see how Indro and Dorman disguising as buyers to find the pornographic books/videos dealers, how all the agents storming the kidnappers' headquarters, how funny it is when Don Showbiz is being told to come to the one of the scariest graveyard in Jakarta. The thing is, almost everything in this movie reflects precisely of what happens in the late 70s and early 80s.

But one thing very different about this film is that it deliberately explains to the audience several colloquial or slang words/terms that were highly common in the time this movie was released. Don't try to use that now though, or people would think you're such an out-of-date person. The flaw also comes from the world of words, since some of the characters are using rude/condescending words unnecessarily, especially Kontet the king of kidnap.

However, I still like to see Manusia 6 Juta Dollar sometimes, this movie is absolutely better than the previous ones, and this is a good improvement for Warkop DKI (Dono, Kasino, Indro) comedy group.
