The dawn of the 80s Indonesian movie realm witnessed the fast growing fame of the new comedy group that has recently appeared on the big screen, Warkop. And Pintar Pintar Bodoh was their 4th movie, which also started a whole new breed of Warkop Films, films where Dono, Kasino and Indro were using their real names in the movies. And this movie was also the one that would familiarize the name and look of the sexy Eva Arnaz to Warkop's fans. Another additional trivia is that Arizal, a multi-talented Indonesian Director who directed many Warkop movies, gave his skill for the first time in Warkop world through Pintar Pintar Bodoh (or Pin Pin Bo).
Dono, Kasino and Indro and Dorman Borisman this time role as private investigators. The four guys are actually still college students who want to earn money by trying to be Detektif Swasta (private investigator). However a clash strikes them and divides them into two parties. Kasino and Dono form their own company called "PT. Kasino Bersama" while Indro and Dorman form "PT. Indro & Konco" (Indro and Partners). Both companies then hire secretaries mainly based on their physical appearances (rated by their hips, breasts and other physical attributes) rather than their administration skills. Orders from clients are flowing fairly to both companies, but the four of them only find misfortunes in their duties. Dono and Kasino try their best not only to solve the problem but also to play pranks on Indro and Dorman, and vice versa.
Although the sound of the theme is rather heavy but the tone is actually very light and with the jokes that are emphasized on their inability to grasp the clues, and also in the romantic relationship between Indro and Kasino's secretary (Eva Arnaz), and of course, between Kasino and Indro's secretary (Dana Christina).
The Jokes, however, fail miserably. Most of the jokes miss the target, even the pranks that are actually promising are not entertaining. Concerning the acting quality of the main members of Warkop, surely they're always performing their best in the 80s, and their acting in Pintar Pintar Bodoh was honed better. The supporting casts though, were still shy and timid from giving all they’ve got, thus serve only as sweeteners, other more minor roles performed by extras, most of them, are even downright awful.
Only one thing memorable from this film thus the sole power of Pin Pin Bo, it's the song called "Nyanyian Kode" (The Code Song) which is performed by Dono and Kasino when they're disguising as street musicians.
In the time of its release Pin Pin Bo might have been highly expected by Warkop fans but this comedy absolutely doesn't stand the test of time.
