Pokoknya Beres was released in 1983 and serves also as a direct sequel of another movie released in the same year, Maju Kena Mundur Kena. As is common with a sequel, the audiences and mainly the fans sure have higher expectation for this entry from Warkop comedy group. Since this entry is different with so many Warkop film released before it, where none of them is correlated.

The film even opens with a scene borrowed from Maju Kena Mundur Kena, a soccer match where Dono disguises as a woman and seemingly his agenda is to grope as many players as he can. Bam! Bad luck for him as the ball hit him in the groin. Dono had to go to a doctor where his dorm friend, Anita (Lydia Kandou) works as a nurse. But, tee hee... :-D instead of getting a "gentle" treatment for his "gentle" part, the Doctor named Cikwan (Pietrajaya Burnama) grabs Dono's private part in full strength!

Dono lives in a house along with Kasino, Indro, Anita and their new friend Marina (Eva Arnaz). The boys used to have a small garage business, but due to certain problems, they have to close it permanently. Kasino and Indro are not too worry about this matter, since they still rely on their parents back home who wire them routinly to pay their college tuition fee, on the other hand, Dono is not as lucky as those two. He already sends so many application letters to work as a chef but is rejected for not having any work experience. "How can I get a job when all restaurants reject me for not having any experience, and how am I supposed to have any experience when not a single restaurant wants to hire me?" he said in insinuation tone. Until one day when attending an interview at "Parkit Bundo" restaurant, he's accidentally mistaken for a great chef named Robert Davis Chaniago, an expert in Padang and French cuisine. Dono, to his surprise, is highly welcomed to work at "Parkit Bundo" and even offered higher salary by the owner. Only that Dono doesn't know that the real Robert is also a wanted man for criminal acts.

Now, considering the jokes, this entry of Warkop still uses slapstick formula as in Maju Kena Mundur Kena. But that doesn't mean that the jokes aren't funny. The scene where doctor Cikwan cures Dono with his unusual method is drop dead hilarious! This is certainly a laugh-out loud moment, how Pietrajaya is so cold in handling his patient and how Dono makes his expression, I laughed so hard that my stomach was hurt. Another laughing moment is when Dono almost whack Anita's father at the hotel room for mistaken him as Anita's kidnapper, the silly Dono just running here and there on top of Anita's father who's lying helplessly under him. Or when several unwanted guests come to see Dono when he's working as a chef with various intentions, which will make Dono bewildered.

Another jokes are, for examples, from Indro who in this movie is also facing his problem for lying that he's sick to his girlfriend, Mia to cancel their date and for Indro to date another girl in his house, Kasino also tries to date Pak Us Us' niece named Itje but is hindered by Pak Us Us who's guarding Itje's room, Kasino then stages a horror situation using a turtle with a candle on top of it to make Pak Us Us frantically go away. These jokes however, to my opinion, are not that funny, probably just enough to make the audience chuckle silently.

Pokoknya Beres position as a comedy movie is a good one, at least it still live up to the expectation and a proper sequel to Maju Kena Mundur Kena. The difference is the jokes in Maju Kena Mundur Kena are not laugh-out-loud-until-your-stomach-hurt, they are still evenly sprinkled through the whole running time of it. While in Pokoknya Beres, the jokes are amusing, but the gap between the jokes are also quite wide. Nevertheless, those movies are good classic Indonesian movies to watch. It's just to bad, that the VCD quality of Pokoknya Beres only a slight better than Maju Kena Mundur Kena.
