Emang Gue Pikirin...! I guess in the 21st century that expression is no longer popular but back then "EGP", or its abbreviation, as the young persons used to say it, is an Indonesian popular slang term that we used to say when we didn't give a darn care over something. Emang Gue Pikirin in English would be translated as "Like I care...!”. An expression that Indro mind-numbingly says for more/less 9 times.
I give a bit of info of this expression since it is probably the only thing you would hear and remember from this film. And I'm sorry, but probably that expression also reflects the audience's thought after watching this comedy flick. Sudah Pasti Tahan was released in 1991, in English the title would be loosely translated as "Of course I can take/stand such a thing"
Kasino and Indro have girlfriends who are staying at "Bariah" boarding house, Kristin (Nurul Arifin) and Linda (Sally Marcellina). Four of them along with Dono are trying to impress a movie producer (Henky Solaiman) by singing and dancing. They also bought a new couch for their new house hoping to please the producer so that Dono and his friends could sign a contract to play in the movie. The producer like them and even gives them free tickets to spend the night at Pelabuhan Ratu beach resort. Dono, Kasino and Indro secretly assigned to be the juries of the next Beach Babe/Queen contest. They try to hide this from their girlfriends who go along with them.
---Start of spoiler Possibility Alert---
The girls find out about their being juries and plan to get back at them by hiding the gasoline can of their boat so the guys would be panicked when they find out they don't have any gas left when fishing in the middle of the sea. Kristin and Linda would regret this since Dono accidentally throws away the real gas can that the girls have hid it before when they're still at the dock. They miraculously arrive at a secluded island with the help of the wave (Duh...!) and find a scary burly person wearing native clothes.
---End of Spoiler Possibility Alert---
Sigh... A comedy movie supposed to be funny, and even though some filmmakers even decided to make a comedy filled with raunchiness and crass jokes, still they have the job to make people laugh or at least chuckle or at the very least smile. But the jokes in Sudah Pasti Tahan are incredibly awful... Not only they won't make you laugh but also the way that Dono, Kasino and Indro are saying their lines is scary! It doesn't feel that they're try to amuse the audience, it seems more they are just angry guys who say rude and inappropriate words towards each other or to their girlfriends. Smile when seeing this? Absolutely impossible, and as a fan of Warkop DKI comedy group myself, it's totally disappointing.
It is common to see Dono, Kasino and Indro singing or dancing in their other films, in Sudah Pasti Tahan there is also a scene when they sing. But… these adult men are dancing and singing a song that absolutely an exact copy of then-popular New Kids on the Block's (NKOTB) song "Step by Step". They're just not cut out to do that sing.
Okay, Sudah Pasti Tahan still has its (only one or two moments), but ironically the jokes come from supporting actors, especially the scene where the owner of the sport store are angry at his deft employee who mistaken ball with couch. Other jokes are awful, some also invovle something like farting and peeing. And the guys are made to be as stupid as (im)possible just to be (un)funny.
Most of sexy supporting actresses and extras' overall acting quality is below rudimentary. But sadly Nurul Arifin's acting arguably would be more suitable for scary horror movies or depressing war movies for her angry and harsh tone for most of the time, very different with her performance in the 80s teen flick, Lupus: Tangkaplah Daku, Kau Kujitak (1987).
Not to mention the storyline which...well, is there really any? Even the story of Beach Babe contest is already used in Warkop's movie before, precisely a year before, entitled Bebas Aturan Main (1993). Although, compared to Bebas Aturan Main, the overall quality of Sudah Pasti Tahan is slightly better.
Rude, crass and totally awful... A Warkop's entry in the 90s that didn’t fix the awful quality of other entries of warkop released in that decade. Frankly, at the time where Indonesian movies were in a state of comma and the movies mostly were B-movies, which heavy in exploitative contents instead of a decent storyline, Sudah Pasti Tahan is not the worst movie, or remembered as one. Nevertheless, it's definitely one of worst Warkop Movies which mainly released in the 90s.
