All the Best: Fun Begins is a buddy movie from India. Something that I found surprisingly amusing though it comes with considerable flaws that could hinder potential moviegoers from spreading good things about it. But if you like the likes of Dude Where's My Car (2000), Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle (2004) or Kangaroo Jack, then you might find something amusing about this one too. Basically we follow crazy actions of two best friends who has to race with time to cope with their problems.
All the Best: Fun Begins features several famous names like Fardeen Khan, Ajay Devgan, and one of the names of Indian actors that I've been so familiar with since childhood, Sanjay Dutt.
Veer Kapoor (Fardeen Khan) and Prem Chopra (Ajay Devgan) are two slackers living in Goa, India. Prem's married to Jhanvi (Bipasha Basu) while Veer is dating Vidya (Mugdha Godse). Jhanvi and Vidya are also best friends. Either Veer of Prem can not be considered successful in earning money with Veer is not having a breakthrough yet with his band and Prem who's running a very obsolete fitness center handed down by his father. Both of them are actually living from the pocket money of Veer which is given regularly by Veer's older (and lot bigger) stepbrother, Dharam Kapoor (Sanjay Dutt).
Dharam is a succesful businessman who's currently living abroad and although acts very rough ---and he is a tough guy--- but he loves his spoiled little brother very much and giving so much money to Veer because thinking that he's a struggling musician and already married to Vidya.
Problem begins when Veer and Prem owe money to the local mafia, Tobu (Johnny Lever), and aren't able to pay him. Finally, with Prem's suggestions, Veer rents out his house. But suddenly, on his business travel, Dharam has to transit through India for 4 hours and he decides to visit Veer. Hit by panic attack, now Veer, Prem, Vidya, Jhanvi and their maid, Mary (Ashwini Khalsekar) have to think extra hard to set everything up so that Dharam won't cancel Veer's pocket money or even worse, breaking the heck out of his nose!
I came to the movie with fairly fair expectation, and I can say for sure that I was certainly amused. For certain, this comedy flick does have its moments, and those funny moments are suprisingly quite many. Some do really tickle me so. It's a good combination of slapstick and funny one liners. The scene where Tobu's foot got rundown by Prem's racing car is hilarious, not just his expression that's precious but then he also kinda dances to express the pain, in this movie Tobu can't talk so he has to dance I guess. I know it sounds cheesy, but who cares, as long as it funny.
My biggest complain is none other than the running time, for goodness sake, I feel like sending magical scissors to the filmmakers. 2 hours and 20 minutes is just too long man... The movie loses momentum over and over because of many un-needed shots. Another downside is the sound effects, it tries too hard to provide funny sounds but only end up making the movie looks (or sounds) cheap.
There is also several scenes that feel out of place, like the scene of car crashings that is repeated for 2 times with slow-motion put for bigger effect. It does feature awesome scene where a car is flying several feet above the ground and hit by another fast-moving car, and the car just goes through it and the driver (brave stuntdude) is seen jumping from it. It's cool but feel too forced. Buddy film does somehow give certain legitimation to make crazy storyline, but it has to be thought very thoroughly. And I admit I like the intentionally intense but also hilarous fighting scene at the beach with all the bad guys are sending flying around while our heroes are seen walking gloriously in slow motion, that's a nice touch but still felt out of the place. Luckily, the musical scene is really a festive and looks very vivacious.
But every actor show good comedy capacity. There are 3 actors that keeps on shining whenever they're around: Sanjay Mishra as the stressed-out Raghuvandas Goverdhandas Vakawale (RGV), Ashwini Kalsekar who looks funny in her own unique way and of course Johnny Lever. Because of him and his character, the movie feels more comical, thus amusing. Sanjay Dutt as versatile actor could also act as the scary but loving big brother who's neither very smart or very dumb. While Ajay Devgan is the cunning one and Fardeen Khan as the more childish one.
I seriously having a fun time watching the film, with an ending scene that though feels irresponsible but could deliver laughs. I like the movie a lot, and it would've been much much better had the director or anyone behind the movie didn't include so many scenes. Watch the movie and have a fun taste of Bollywood buddy comedy movie.
