Have you ever heard of the little red riding hood? It's a children story very well known throughout the world. Little red riding hood has a root of origin from Western Europe (France and Germany) telling the fairy tale of an innocent girl coming face to face with the big bad wolf.
There are already many versions of The Little Red Riding Hood told in many versions and variations, but I could safely say this short film from New Zealand is by far the most hilarious, amusing, compact and honest to the original story. And for your information mates, the origin of the story is not sweet and tender... But gruesome and quite disturbing. Talking in Hollywood jargons, the original story should've been rated R or even NC-17 and not PG!
Mama Red Hood giving order to Little Red
So, Big Bad Wolves is trying to depict the original story through the narration of a mobster! Be ready for 13 minutes of sheer fun with hilarity here and there!
Big bad wolves opens with a mob (Mark Williams) suddenly blurts out about the tale of little red riding hood and he thinks that it's basically a story about sex education! D'oh, the other four mobsters raise their eyebrows in disbelief over his claim. But the narrator insists on his opinion by telling them their reason as of why the girl (Brooke Petersen) is wearing red hood, why her mother (Sarah Dove) sends her into the woods, what or who the big bad wolf (Steven A. Davis) is and most importantly who the f*ck is the woodcutter (Martin Ridley) who suddenly appears. Most importantly the connection between the Little Red Riding Hood and the connection with the famous story tellers from Germany, Brothers Grimm.
Controversial Part of the Fairy Tale
If you have known the story of little red riding hood, you will get even louder laugh watching Big Bad Wolves as the joke will become even funnier and ridiculously hilarious especially being contrasted that serious mobsters are discussing children tale. But even if you're not, the neat editing, good story telling, extra nudity from beautiful actress Brooke Petersen and brisk pacing will leave you amused. Sometimes short film has bigger impact than usual big screen movies as it leaves out anything unimportant to the progress of the story or the message the movie tries to convey. Big Bad Wolves is for sure one of those good short flicks..
