21 Cineplex movie theaters in Jakarta has been displaying for quite some time (around 3 months) the poster of World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles (2011), but moviegoers seemingly still have to wait some more. If we are to discuss Alien Invasion, usually the memory of some moviegoers does not go any further back from 1996 when the world saw the release of Independence Days (1996), or probably even worse, only as far as to 2007 with The Invasion (2007) featuring Nicole Kidman... If you cherish the premise of mysterious entity from outer space taking over human body to terrorize earth, then this classic film should be on your must-watch list.

In the city emergency hospital, there is a ruckus which demands immediate action when a reputable doctor, Miles Bennel M.D. (Kevin McCarthy) is about to be sent to the Mental Hospital for the insane dudes after his controversial claims. It all started in summer in the small town of Santa Mira, California, when Dr. Miles has just got back from Medical Convention and the city seems to have many complaints concerning their families. Some of Miles patients --including his girlfriend Becky Driscoll (Dana Wynter)-- claim their family have changed into different persons... They said that they look and talk the same and even have the same vivid memory of their past, but the feel is not... As if there is this barrier separating them which make them feel distant.

At first, Miles, ignores this and even diagnose his patients as the ones who have the problems and even his colleague the psychiatrist Dan Kauffmann (Larry Gates) says it's some kind of Epidemic Mass Hysteria. And at this level, there is practically no cause for alarm. But after an increasing amount of similar symptoms across the town, Miles knows this is something far beyond reasonable and a very dangerous phenomenon. What is really happening to them?

Black and White here people, so if the visual is not your cup of tea, you will be disappointed somehow, surprisingly although released in 1956, there is a brief topless nudity down in the basement scene, something that's quite shocking for a BW flick. The good thing is, nudity is not the only shocking stuff here, but the story itself is a gripping one. Of course, it's hard to imagine how shocking it is back in the time of its released, and I honestly admit to haven't seen this movie (even if I have, I totally forgot), but the credits have to be given undoubtedly for its subtly disturbing premise which will induce this uneasy feeling of waking up one day and find the one you love the most is still there living and breathing but emotionless, no feeling at all good or bad, love or hate. This movie is trying to give us a glimpse of sickening utopia which will deprive human from something that makes us human in the first place... To feel!

Invasion of the Body Snatchers have given way to other motion pictures with similar premise such as Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), Body Snatchers (1993) and its latest remake The Invasion (2007) and even its corny imitator Invasion of the Pod People (2007). The movie is also included in AFI's 10 Top 10 in 2008 under Science Fiction category and also in AFI's 100 Thrills on #47. Based on the novel by Jack Finney titled The Body Snatchers, its motion picture version Invasion of the Body Snatchers may not cover the demography of viewers as vast as other black and white movies but it is admittedly one of true classics in science fiction genre.

> If you like the more cheerful and colorful version of Alien Invasion: Alien Trespass (2009) or head for The Rat Savior AKA Izbavitelj (1976) for a remarkable Yugoslavian Body Snatcher!

> For other Invasions and perhaps for male only: Invasion of the Star Creatures (1962) and an exploitation flick Invasion of the Bee Girls (1973).
