Tonight is the first time ever I watch this hybrid of science fiction and comedy. Apparently, Invasion of the Star Creatures is really heavy on the slapstick humor. Black and White... Slapstick... A guy hits another guy and he also does silly actions with weird voice...? My mind flew right back to my childhood watching The Three Stooges. An extremely and highly amusing wacky comedians which I never missed it during its run (re-run of course) on TV. After seven minutes into the movie, I felt amused and laughed once, but I had to stopped because I haven't sleep in almost 20 hours. 01:00 AM, I'm fresh and ready to view some more of this rarely mentioned low-budget film. And to put it simple, it's not that bad.

Pvt. Philbrick and Pvt. Penn

Private Philbrick (Robert Ball) and Private Penn (Frankie Ray) are two best friends down on their luck. Seemingly having no prospect serving in the Army for them, they strive hard to have a better life, much better life. Hoping to be sent to the moon, they instead are sent to investigate a butte and end up being tied up by a pair of female scientists from outer space, Prof. Tanga (Gloria Victor) and her assistant Dr. Puna (Dolores Reed) with the help of their carrot soldiers. They admit to have come from Planet Chalar, the Belfar Star System or estimated to be as far as 600 million light years away from Earth! Oh my...

On Earth, Tanga and Puna have been spending 10 years of Earth's years with one mission in mind... To conquer our planet with any means necessary due to their own planet has been over-populated. So with the brain of vegetable, Philbrick and Penn are going to stop their evil intention with the help of several Native American Indians who love to dance. Will the Dynamite Dumb-o save our Earth?

Professor Tanga and Dr. Puna

This movie is stupid in many sense that you can imagine, but you know what, it's actually watchable but only if you know what you're getting into. Basically this is just another low-budget science fiction movie which will not be remembered let alone hailed as classic (classic as in valuable). Black and white, cheap production set with fakey fakey looking cave, dumb storyline. Yes, yes, yes, why should anyone hunt this movie anyway, right? You may think like that, but the fact is because the movie was likely produced with the intention to amuse and not to be perfect, it may be an amusing variation to sci-fi fans. How can you not be amused seeing men/women in carrot monster costume fighting our moronic soldiers?!

The movie is intentionally created to be ridiculously amusing. So calling it as so-bad-it's-good or awfully bad is not exactly right. The writer and the filmmakers knew they're creating something wacky and hoping for the viewers to get entertained. I didn't laugh so many during the viewing of this 60s alien invasion movie but I liked seeing all the cast perform decent and even Robert Ball, Frankie Ray and Mark Ferris (as Col. Rank) perform above par. They are pretty good comedian, too bad most of these actors clearly had very short career span. Invasion of the Star Creatures is available as double feature DVD, which means the movie is combined with another title, interestingly, the other titles deliver a totally different atmosphere. Sometimes Invasion of the Star Creatures is combined with The Brain that wouldn't die (1962) which is a hybrid of Sci-Fi and Horror. And sometimes Invasion of the Star Creatures is combined with Invasion of the Bee Girls (1973) which is an exploitation movie. Whatever it is, Invasion of the Star Creatures is quite a decent 60s movie by its own accord.
