The Movie Review
It's a bright sunny day this Friday and the traffic wasn't so awful. A perfect time to seek for another movie to review this weekend. I knew precisely what I had in mind... Kepergok Pocong! Yep, the title may sound corny and spells cheap all over it, but if it can give you a good time, then it's a movie worth seeing. This time, I decided to watch a movie not in Jakarta, but in the suburb or precisely in Tangerang. Another theater of 21 Cineplex called CBD CILEDUG XXI which cost only Rp. 20,000 every Friday.
I got there just in time, thanks to Ojek (motorbike-taxi), which runs fast by request :-) The movie started 5 minutes earlier and the studio was filled with quite many viewers, although mostly teenagers and even pre-teens who came late, made noises and each of them armed with popcorn & cola (Okay, I did too!). I don't know what they're expecting for, but I had rather high expectation for a movie featuring Aziz Gagap.

Aziz Gagap in this horror comedy stars as a college student named Aina, who hasn't yet graduated in his 12 years of study. He earns money by being an undertaker (Indonesian: Tukang Gali Kubur). If you think he's a tough burly macho guy, you are perfectly wrong. Aina is a tranny who speaks in stutter manner! A transsexual undertaker? Nice touch there writer! Anyhow, Aina shares the same roof with fellow students, Cecep Komarudin AKA Ceko (Rozie Mahally) and Boy (Reymond Knuliq) whom Aina has a crush on. Boy takes advantage of Aina to get some money out of him because he's desperately trying to date a materialistic girl named Princess (Nadya Almira). While Ceko also needs money for wanting to help his love interest, Niken (Keira Shabira) to pay for her rent.
To get more money, Ceko and Boy scheme to do a black magic ritual which they learnt from a book. They have to take a picture of a corpse which died from a tragic death of Sumpah Pocong (a ritual which will make a man dies instantly if he made false swears). So when their friend Donatus (Albert) is documenting Aina's work as in the graveyard, Ceko and Boy takes a picture of a dead body with their cell phone. At first, they gain quite a success by being supporting actors in a movie and eventually use their money to brag in front of their girlfriends. But suddenly a mysterious guy named Aceng appears out of nowhere and Aina, Ceko, Boy, Niken and Princess are constantly terrorized by shocking appearances of Pocong, Kuntilanak CS (alias ame temen2nye deh)! What will happen to them, especially Boy and Ceko who cause the trouble in the first place?
I sought for a good laugh seeing the 3rd performance of Aziz Gagap and I did get some, but the movie failed to become better than its predecessor. Kepergok Pocong can be said as unrelated-sequel of Pocong Ngesot and Kuntilanak Kesurupan as it mainly features Aziz Gagap with his tranny and stuttering character and also with mostly the same cast and also directed by the same famous/infamous director Nayato Fio Nuala. The different is that Kepergok Pocong solely relies on Aziz Gagap to humor up the scenes! Sometimes he really cracks the whole audience up and sometimes he doesn't (alias garing!). And it seems the writer of Kepergok Pocong had run out of funny ideas when he wrote this Indonesian horror comedy, as the jokes are clearly saturated and the language become ruder. It's a typical sign of the dwindling quality of humor.
Yes, all the pre-teens back in the studio were having good time, I knew that very well (DARN TOO WELL actually!) since they sat in the row right in front of me. But I'm still amused more by Pocong Ngesot or Kuntilanak Kesurupan and at least Kepergok Pocong is not vulgar in terms of sensuality and at least the pacing is tight so it leaves very little room to feel bored. Still recommended for a weekend movie as long as this is your cup of coffee...
