The Movie Review

Speechless.... That's how I was after seeing this incredibly magnificent movie. And not just me, the rest of the audiences in the cinema yesterday were almost in mute mode when going out the exit door.

As fellow moviegoers might have already noticed, almost every movie carries a message in their story. Some of the messages are true, some of them are manipulative. But sometimes movies do convey a true message but sadly they convey them in a rude manner, but there are also movies that presenting them in a gentle way.

MY NAME Is KHAN
Storyline:5 stars
Cast:4.5 stars
Ending:4.5 stars
Overall:
5 stars

My Name is Khan is of course carrying a wonderful message of truth. Yes, I know that MNIK is not the only movie carrying a rightful one, may other movies do too. However what sets MNIK apart from other movies is how MNIK delivers its message in a peaceful way... without judging, lecturing or prejudicing. My Name is Khan is truly a movie with a very noble and very good intention in it. And I'm positively sure that Shahrukh Khan must have been really proud of himself and grateful that he could star in this deeply-affecting drama film. And not just Mr. Khan, I myself was proud having seen such a perfectly balanced story and very delightful having seen such perfectly touching motion picture. For your own sake, go hurry and watch My Name is Khan and feel the positive difference in you.

My Name is Khan is a Bollywood movie telling a story about a man named Rizwan Khan who was born in the city of Mumbai in Borivali section, India, as an autistic child. Rizwan Khan is a very smart kid and even near genius but his condition doesn't make him very well accepted in the society, even his little brother is not very kind to him due to his jealousy that their mother seems to care more about Khan than him. Khan's family is nowhere near being rich, but Khan's mother (Zarina Wahab) is a wise mother who teaches Khan to love everyone and to separate people not by their status, race or even religion, but by good people or bad people. And this part fellow moviegoers, is very touching and may linger on your mind for sometime to come.

Khan eventually grows up to be a handsome man (Shahrukh Khan), and he dreams of better life in the land called America. Following his brother's footstep who went to San Francisco, USA with scholarship. Khan is accepted with warm welcome mostly by his sister-in-law, Haseena (Sonya Jehan). And then he works as a cosmetic salesman for the same company as his brother, Zakir (Jimmy Shergill). Zakir's high position is able him to give his brother a job. While working, Khan meets a woman that would change his life forever, a beautiful woman who works at a beauty salon, named Mandira (Kajol). The friendly Mandira challenges Khan to take her to see if there's a place in San Francisco that she doesn't already know, and with this challenge Khan and Mandira's relationship is gradually blooming to the next level. However... when the harsh reality of 9/11 happens, the life of Khan who's a Moslem, Mandira who's a Hindu and living in a city that are mostly Christians would be something very very challenging and life-altering. And now Rizwan Khan is traveling across America to keep his promise to Mandira, a promise that may win Mandira's back, a journey that will meet Rizwan Khan with many bad people as well as many loving ones (Jennifer Echols as Mama Jenny is Splendid in this part). A journey that will prove that human being are only separated by two categories, the good ones and those are not.. Khan will prove that without prejudice against one another, all people are good people.

Hands down, heads up, definitely an extremely strong contender for top 10 movies of 2010! It's amazing, amazing how the story flows so naturally that making us so hooked up with Khan's life, amazing how the pacing is tight without dragging, amazing how the writer finds the solution for every little problem or major problem in the story with highly logical facts, amazing how a drama movie could be strong and filled with high-quality message of life. It makes me feel bad for having only 5 stars in this website, I've seen tons of movies since childhood, but nothing prepare me to view such a feel-good, and sincere message to bring peace to human race. My Name is Khan is far from being agitating, it doesn't give you the spirit to fight, but giving you the spirit to love, to reach inside the good inner facet of every human and to realize that... Doh..! Isn't love better than hatred?

I don't feel talking too technically about the movie, as far as I'm concerned, the story definitely has outperformed Slumdog Millionaire (2008) or other Shahrukh Khan's movies, the performance of Shahrukh Khan and Kajol are magnificent, the directing of Karan Johar is great with excellent camerawork, the editing is also excellent, the songs are nice and touching and uplifting, the messages are awesome, and the ending is very very strong and seriously smart. The trio of Karan, Shahrukh and Kajol has done it again, a trio that reminds me of Tim Burton, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. With My Name is Khan the trio has set a higher bar for any filmmakers out there in the world who strive to convey the message of truth and of peace.
