The Movie Review

Yes! At last...A brainy Volcano movie! And a great one! After a long time of waiting, finally I get the chance to see another movie about lava, lahar and its brothers and sisters and the chaos it causes upon humanity! Let's welcome Dante's Peak.

Dante's Peak is a name of a small town situated north of Cascade Mountain that all believe the mountain to be dormant. The mayor of the town is Rachel Wando (Linda Hamilton), a widow with two children, who is very proud of his town since she's receiving an award for being "The second most desirable place to live in the U.S with population under 20,000 people", the town is on its peak with all the tourists and the growing economy.

On the same day, the representative of the USGS (United States Geological Survey), Dr. Harry Dalton (Pierce Brosnan), is there to investigate a volcanic activity of Cascade Mountain. Harry's suspicion of the dangerous volcanic activity at first dismissed by his boss Dr. Paul Dreyfus, but after he finds out a solid proof that can be used to issue an evacuation, all is already too late. Facing all kinds of threats of a volcanic eruption, now the citizen of Dante's Peak must rush their way to safety no matter what...

About the cast, to be honest, there's nothing special or memorable, and Pierce Brosnan sometimes (not much) appears wooden, plus the dialogue is very general. The chemistry between Pierce and Linda also leaves something to be desired. But the storyline that interconnects all the scenes is acclaim-worthy, it also doesn't try to put some distracting or crass-type jokes between them. These people are well-educated adults who realize the actual danger of a volcanic eruption situated so close to their city of Dante's Peak.

This disaster movie is the real deal. All the indications, in-process and aftermath of a volcanic eruption are highly realistic. I'm not saying that this film will be scientific, heck no! It presents the frightening moments of volcanic eruption complete with all the drama and the action but... all felt believable because everything is according to the real event. Talking from the knowledge perspective, Dante's Peak entertains you and also teaches you something about volcanoes.

Dante's Peak is a one great serious disaster movie. Hopefully future disaster movie will be at least as good as this.
