Live Free or Die Hard -- also known as Die Hard 4 or Die Hard 4.0 -- is a must see for all action aficionados. But what the commotion is all about anyway? Can this movie top the previous Die Hard(s)?
Bruce Willis in his 53, still retains his role as John McClane and still as badass as ever. And what the heck is he get into now? the way there, some people suddenly try to stop them and to kill the hacker-boy. It turns out that a group of militants is on the mission to destroy America by means of Fire-Sale tactics. Lead by Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant), this group employs unknowingly hackers to smooth their evil plan. All hackers have been eliminated, all but one, Matthew -- who doesn't understand why people want him dead. So McClane and Matthew have to blast their way to coup with the situation.
Bruce Willis is accompanied by experienced actors such as Timothy Olyphant and Maggie Q, which they have successfully blended together to bring out the soul of Die Hard. Die Hard 4.0 is as bad as ever, and even in some point even tougher! Explosive is always the name of the game in Die Hard series, this is where the term Crash Boom Bang rings loud and true! In the air and in the land, car chasing, chopper chasing, guns, sealed with great performances by its actors and actresses.
The storyline also cleverly written to cover a lot of grounds which means a lot of cool action to do! Nevertheless being a little bit bitchy about this movie, I think the shots angles could be improved a bit to make it more dramatic and cool, some gun shots are taken to show the shooters angle and not the effect of the fires i.e. the victims. There's not enough gory for these kind of action scenes. Die Hard 4 is like a disaster movie meet gun fighting a la McClane, They practically destroy anything and McClane -- in this chaotic United States -- also has to destroy anything to get to the bad guys.
More specifically, Die Hard 4.0 always comes with clever and humorous quips! If you're not amazed by the action then at least you'll chuckle! Although too bad, it's just too bad that the script just can not hold itself from delivering condescending tone that insults other nation or religion. Just can't help it huh? Ever think that Die Hard 4 is internationally released? Die Hard is an action film where the fans of the 1st Die Hard (1988) is coming from many nations and religions, why did the writers had to put it that way? It's not like this film is trying to convey something for greater good a la Crash (2004) which has won and was nominated for numerous awards. Crash (2004) highlights racism only to remind us that it's an inevitable trait of people living in this world but also gives us something to think rather than just accusing and pointing crooked finger.
But to look this movie from the action perspective, surely Die Hard 4 is movie worth watching. But still, the first one is better.
