John Rambo...John Rambo has influenced most part of the world with its legendary heroic tale. A tale that has inspired many discouraged people to stand up for themselves and fight for righteous deeds. This character and the movie has been the new pop culture icon ever since.
First Blood is the first installment of the Rambo franchise. It's known also as Rambo 1 or Rambo, was released back in 1982.
John J. Rambo is seen arriving on a serene rural village in search of his friend at the army named Delmore only to find that Delmore has passed away. Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) than drifts along the road and he finally arrives to the small city of Hope probably to find a job and a place to live. Unfortunately, the town's cocky Sheriff Will Teasle (Brian Dennehy) thinks Rambo is just another crazy useless war veteran, insults Rambo and tells Rambo that he is not welcomed in the city.
Rambo finds his remarks as ultimate insults for a war veteran who is left nothing but bad memories and hard future. Rambo then fights him that leads to a bigger battle that ensues between the Sheriff and his posse with John Rambo. What will happen in this battle full of hatred and anger?
Yeah! It's always a pleasure to see First Blood every once in a while, it stirs your emotion right from the very first minutes and makes you feel sympathy for Rambo without Rambo has to do anything huge.
Rambo serves as a great example of how to make the audience feel connected to the movie. Unlike many, many, (and many) movies nowadays where the filmmakers Only put great emphasis on the good-guys but lacks the effort of making the bad guys really bad. Probably even Worse... Some movies might actually give the impressions that the good-guys are wooden enough or even bastard-ical enough to be killed, probably hoping that the audience would just glad to see they're dead?! Don't think so!
First Blood involves our emotion, thanks to the script and thanks to the great acting of the antagonists especially Brian Dennehy. The script makes Brian the Sheriff a very very bad and despotic person, that makes us hate the guts out of him Even without Rambo has to do anything "cute". The emphasis on the bad attitude of the antagonist is a very very significant and key feature in making a great film, not just great but also draws the audience attention and makes an action film like Rambo being separated far far away from the world of Boredom...
Things are not made softer for John J. Rambo, and that's one of First Blood selling points, to see how Rambo handles and tackles those bad guys. Rambo doesn't talk too much, in fact Sylverster Stallone only have a few lines in his dialogue to spit out, he just kicks some asses, he kills and shoots and everything he considers necessary to be done.
I'm not gonna nag about why there are no people left in town when Rambo runs amok, nope, that's the kind of irrationality that I'm willing to ignore as a compensate for one heck of a show!
First Blood Rambo is a must-see film for all action movie aficionados, a movie that contributes in shaping the America's and even International's pop culture. Rambo always rocks!
