The Movie Review

Scarface is originally and loosely based on a classic movie with the same title that was released back in 1932. But for modern society, Scarface has its advantage for being headlined by an actor that's famous for his role in the legendary movie The Godfather, he is Al Pacino.

The New Scarface was released in 1983 and would be one the movies that Al Pacino will be related and remembered with for his role as Tony Montana. The Screenplay is also written by the now-famous director Oliver Stone, who has directed several famous movies such as Platoon, Born in the Fourth of July, and Any Given Sunday. Anyhow Scarface is one of those movies that has become popular culture icon ever since, most notably

probably among gamers who have played Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. There are extremely stark similarity between the game and the movie.

So, what is Scarface about anyway? Scarface tells the story of a Cuban refugee named Tony Montana who is also an ex-soldier who got balls bigger than brain. Tony always speaks the truth therefore he is soon respected by other dope dealers in the area. Tony with his determination easily complete all tasks ordered to him by his first boss Frank Lopez (Robert Loggia). Frank starts to dislike Tony when Tony seems to have a crush on Frank's girl Elvira Hancock (Michelle Pfeiffer). Things are turns worse for Tony and his best friend Manny Ribera (Steven Bauer) as Tony's attitude that sometimes doesn’t know boundaries. Of course Tony doesn't care about all that and his ambition just grows to make enemies.

This was the first time Al Pacino starred together with Michelle Pfeiffer (the second is in Frankie and Johnny 1991), and so to say that Pfeiffer looks stiff, probably she wasn't given many lines therefore there's no room for her character development. What's interesting about Tony Montana is really his personality and of course Al Pacino which has successfully enlivened Montana particularly with his Cuban accent.

By the by there is a gory scene that highly-likely would make some of you cringe, the infamous chainsaw scene which is probably not everybody would except from a gun-fight/mafia film.

Everything is good, it's just the pace sometimes gets slow and tedious; they probably ought to have deleted some important scenes. However the finale is really worth to wait. And Al Pacino is really the only strong character this movie has. His line even made its way to be placed at spot 61 on AFI 100 Movie Quotes of All Time.

In a nutshell, Scarface with today's measuring may not be the best movie, but its impact on America's popular culture is undeniable.
