Like the other Action Revenge movies, The Brave One presents you the satisfaction the sub-genre usually evokes, but this movie particularly strengthen by the first-rate performance of Jodie Foster!

Jodie Foster performs brilliantly as Erica Bain a radio show host for WKW radio network. On one unfortunate night, while strolling down the Stranger's Gate in New York with her fiancé David Kirmani (Naveen Andrews), Erica and David are attacked by merciless thugs, who toy with them, harass Erica before finally beat them up. Erica and David later rushed to a hospital, but sadly David doesn't make it.

After three weeks of unconsciousness, Erica wakes up and to her unbelievable shock finds that David has already passed away. Erica sinks into great depression, until finally she manages to make a come back at WKNW. Erica seeks information concerning his fiancé’s murder, but later saddened again by the incompetent work of the local police. Grieved, disappointed and angry, Erica seeks justice by herself through the menacing dark street of New York.

Jodie Foster manage to reflects what a normal career woman will reacts under the circumstances. She feels angry, sad, but also in the same time frightened and unsure of her act of justice. This is an action movie, but Jodie and Detective Sean Mercer (Terrence Howard) plays the drama very well and their acting really cover the movie's weak plot, added that some twists in this movie largely contribute to the storyline more believable.

Sadly, I think, for the Revenge sub-genre fans and even who are not, will consider the final revenge is just not cruel enough compare to what had been inflicted upon Erica and David. But aside to that, everything in this film fits perfectly well to Revenge sub-genre, again thanks to Jodie Foster.
