Seeing the poster and hearing the name, we got a clear picture in mind that this will be a movie concerning Gay. Now, I'm not going to write anything pertaining gay, because as always, we here at Movielogy.com are reviewing movie for the sake of Moviegoers and for the sake of entertainment.
Larry (Kevin James), a dedicated firefighter and also a widower with a son (who is soon to be gay) and a daughter (macho gal) is facing a big financial problem, he then decides the only safest way to cope with it, is by remarrying someone. But since Larry doesn't trust anyone, he chooses Chuck (Adam Sandler) to be his partner in marriage. Chuck who is also a firefighter and is anything but a gay reluctantly accepted Chuck's favor in account that Chuck has just recently saved Larry's life.
But what they think as a simple solution to Larry's problem turns out to be more complicated with the sniffing of government agent of beneficiary office Clinton (Steve Buscemi), and so they seek help from a lawyer Alex (Jessica Biel), who eventually Larry thinks of her to be the girl he has been searching for.
Adam sandler with its Happy Madison has released his latest comedy film, which I find arguably derivative. I can't help comparing this movie to other movies falls in the same sub-genre of comedy, like Boat Trip. I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry has the same formula as Boat Trip in every turn. A desperate straight guy, gay party, true love with a hot girl while disguising as a gay, et cetera. The main difference is that Boat Trip somehow targeted for younger audience while I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry is for the more mature audience, based on the quality of its drama.
Maybe you can already guess what will be the ingredients in this movie, gay protest, gay dance, gay relatives, everything is just about gay. And from the comedy point of view, frankly, I've chuckled quite often, and this movie proves to be better than Boat Trip, but from other comedy movies, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry still needs much improvement or maybe some reduction?
One thing deserved to be commended, and that is how it reminds us of the dedication of the ones who willing to give their lives for others...the Firefighters.
