The Movie Review
Whew, old formula just never grows old in the movie realm. It's a Boy Girl Thing's premise is anything but new. I'm sure the premise itself was already on some of people's mind over the centuries, moreover with the released of Mel Gibson's What Women Want in year 2000 and Rob Schneider The Hot Chick in 2002. Both flicks' premise combined is the premise of It's a Boy Girl Thing. Weird thing is all three of them were released in December. However, here in Movielogy.com, it's one of our policies to always review and see a movie as a movie on its own, after that then we’re allowed to make reference to other movies that could/might inspired it. So I try to review It's a Boy Girl Thing as is.

Nell and Woody are neighbours who go to the same high school. Both have distinctive personalities. Nell (Samaire Armstrong) is a smart girl who loves poetry and has the dream of becoming one of Yale University student, and...she is a virgin. Woody (Kevin Zegers), on the other hand, is the high school jock who excels in football and dates the hottest cheerleader in school, and he is not that smart. While Nell and Woody have known each other for long, they also hate each other. However, one day while they're on a class trip at the museum, they argue in front of an ancient Aztec statue which appears to switch their souls. Poof, the next morning they wake up in each other bodies...
I think you could already guess where the jokes are going to be derived from, right? Of course, the female Woody (Nell in Woody's body) has to cope with her being a guy who has to date a girl and also learn to pee, and of course the morning stuff that a guy usually has, which is excuse my language, boner. While the male Nell (Woody in Nell's body) has to do some brainy stuff that Woody usually doesn't cut out for. And of course they're trying to make fun out of each other by actually making fun out of themselves, like the male Nell try to dress in skimpy out fit and stuff like that. On paper, they are exciting and funny, unfortunately on the execution most of them fall flat. Being a comedy, means being able to make the audience laughs. But frankly, it fails miserably in doing so. I only laughed for about 3 or 4 times, and those were only chuckles.
The good thing about this film is that the pace is actually enjoyable, the dialogue is decent and there is no exaggeration from any aspect, which means everything flows normally. The acting quality of Kevin and especially Samaire Armstrong are good enough for this kind of genre, but they are not charming enough to even make their characters likable or even memorable. I still could even feel that Nell is a girl and Woody is a guy, at this point Rob Schneider and Rachel McAdams's characters in The Hot Chick are much more interesting.
It's a Boy Girl Thing is just another example of a movie with a good premise but fails in execution, I find the trailer is much more exciting than the movie itself.
