Do you like raunchy dish just like the one from American Pie (1999)? Not Another Teen Movie has so many different taste of raunchy food served in a single table. If you love one, maybe you'll love some more, but if you hate one, maybe then this movie will be pointless. I could say even though Not Another Teen Movie is pointless, it pointlessly and brainlessly fun, just like the respective ingredients.
Stereotype is the name of the game, and so it stays that way until the film ends. The Major plot in this comedy film is based on She's All That. Therefore whole story pretty much revolves around Jake Wyler (Chris Evans) the Popular Jock who is recently dumped by his girlfriend the Nasty Cheerleader Priscilla (Jaime Pressly) for the Weirdo Les. When one day Jake and his friend spots Priscilla and Les kissing, one of Jake's buddies Austin the Cocky Blonde Guy makes bet with Jake to find the ugliest girl in the school and to make that girl a prom queen.
Jake points several girls but Austin said they are still way too easy, until Austin, to his excitement, points Janey Briggs (Chyler Leigh) the Pretty Ugly Girl, or as Austin put it, the real shitbomb. Jake then seeks help from his own lusty sister Catherine (Mia Kirshner) the Cruelest Girl to work with Janey's appearance. She is finally transformed into an attractive girl, but then later finds out the she's only the object of Jake and Austin's bet. Jake now realizes what Janey really means to him, but will Janey ever forgive him?
Actually to my embarrassment, I do find this spoof movie to be quite different, yes it highly derivative, but seriously, it's funny. There's not much to be commented about the acting, all the actors need is to really enjoy the script and act goof. Oh yeah, some stars of the 80s appear in cameo roles such Mr. T as the Wise Janitor and Molly Ringwald as the flight attendant.
When I see a spoof movie, one of the fun parts is to identify each scene derived from what movie. So I'll give you a list of movies parodied in this movie, thought that you might want to know or remember. It parodies: American Pie, Road Trip, She's All That, Bring It On, The Breakfast Club, There's Something About Marry, Sixteen Candles, 10 Things I Hate About You, Can't Hardly Wait, Never Been Kissed, The Faculty, Jawbreaker, Pretty in Pink, Cruel Intentions, Clueless, Varsity Blues and even Grease! I do think the spoof of Grease really hits the mark.
And wanna know its working title in the U.S.? It's 10 Things I Hate about Clueless Road Trips When I Can't Hardly Wait to be Kissed.
Raunchiness and brainless sometimes could be very entertaining, it's satiated enough for the fans of the sub-genre, and of course for those teens or ex-teens who have pleasant memory when they watched the respective spoofed movies inside the theater ;-)
