The Movie Review

A movie with bad premise but good in execution sometimes ended up as box-office or at least memorable. On the contrary good premise but bad in execution sometimes ended up dusty on the DVD shelf or at least forgettable. You Kill Me likely to fall to the latter category. Released in June 2007 and headlined by Ben Kingsley, You Kill Me is supposed to be an exciting movie that entertains, instead it's one mediocre movie, that if it had been worse, I would gladly lambaste it, but it's not. So this film is kinda stuck in the average quality.

Okay, a mafia named Frank Falenczyk is a member of Polish mob in New York. He has a drinking problem, which makes him messed up his latest but important assignment from

his boss who is also his uncle. So Frank's uncle sends him to San Francisco to enroll on a rehabilitation program to cure his drinking problem. In San Francisco, Frank (Ben Kingsley) also works at a mortuary with a job of dressing dead people before they're buried. In this unique job however, Frank has a crush on weird client named Laurel Pearson (Tea Leoni) who also seems okay with the dark world where Frank is in. Laurel's love for Frank will be put to test when Frank has to go home to help his in-danger family.

You Kill Me arguably supposed to be a dark comedy. But then again even dark comedy should be able to make people laugh. You Kill Me doesn't provide the necessary laugh that general moviegoers usually expect, and this comedy flick definitely devoid of any laugh-out-loud moment. But that could be a good thing for fellow moviegoers who seek to watch a comedy with sober jokes. Thankfully, Ben Kingsley and Tea Leoni's acting are good, and even though I didn't feel any chemistry between them, still their dialogue is quite interesting.

With an actually promising premise, interesting dialogue, quiet laughter (if any), solid acting performance, I think if this movie had been enhanced more, it would have been one great movie...but sorry to say it's not.
