The Movie Review
The Bodyguard is a movie released back in November 1992 and a movie that has grossed over 400 million dollars and has successfully position itself in top 100 biggest Box-Office gross all-time Worldwide! The Bodyguard will be remembered for the major parts by two things. First, the soundtrack that sold over 50 million copies worldwide! And second would be the image of Frank carrying Rachel in his arms.
Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner) is a retired Secret Service agent that used to protect President Ronald Reagan, but eventually Reagan was shot when Frank is off duty. He now works as a personal bodyguard and asked by his close friend Devaney (Bill Cobs) to guard a very popular singer

Rachel Marron (Whitney Houston) who is being stalked and delivered sick letters. Frank accepts this job only to find that Rachel is a nagging woman who refuses to do things told by Frank for her own safety. Their professional relationship blossoms towards a romantic one, but will Frank able to guard her in the end?
Whitney made her film debut in the Bodyguard, that's probably why she acts plain in general, but Kevin Costner...yes a wooden face is needed for a tough bodyguard, but his character is not interesting, not charismatic enough to be liked. It's pretty obvious that one of the biggest selling point of this film is famous status of Whitney and maybe also its hidden agenda is tries to boost her album selling. Of course that is not uncommon; however do they have to that obvious in their plan? There is no chemistry between those two! Their kiss is not even romantic but instead it's kind of scary!
The storyline is not intricate enough and veteran moviegoers must have been able to guess who the bad guys is right from the first few minutes.
I'm not saying that I am not fond of Whitney's song, she has a great voice, and some of her songs did remind me of the early 90s good memories. Her song "I Will Always Love you", that's originally written and performed by Dolly Parton, now takes its place on AFI's (American Film Institute) Top 100 Movie Songs.
The final question that I've been asking myself is The Bodyguard really a movie or is it just an overly-extended version of Whitney Houston Music Videos? Whatever the answer is, The Bodyguard is a movie about Whitney Houston. It means for other fellow moviegoers who are not fans of Whitney and maybe don't even know her at all, this movie falls below average.
