The Movie Review

Snakey snakey why are you so fakey fakey, I do still likey likey even though you're lamey lamey :-)

It took several years for the sequel of the first Anaconda (1997) to be released. Well seven years to be exact. And what a lame CGI they got here. But it's ok. This sequel still entertains, if only you are willing to ignore the graphic and ignore the over-the-top acting. Then I'll say you will have fun seeing it.

A group of scientists lead by Dr. Jack Byron (Matthew Marsden) is heading to Borneo in Indonesia in search for the Blood Orchid. The flower that they believe could prolong human's life. The team of this ambitious Jack comprises of the cutey Sam Rogers (KaDee Strickland), the bitchy Gail Stern (Salli Richardson), the flirtatious Doctor of the team Ben Douglas

(Nicholas Gonzalez) and several others. Jack Byron pays the local guide who is in fact also an American (but he considers himself as native) named Bill Johnson (or Jin sun as the local call him), a tough guy Tarzan-like who owns a rusty but durable boat.

On their way to the location of the flower whereabouts, Bill (Johnny Messner) senses dangers coming out of the high water level that may be dangerous for them to continue their journey, but Jack bribe him and raise Bill's payment so Bill will continue to guide them. All the other team members are oblivious of the danger they are about to face and pretty soon they are really into a big cheerless surprise.

This film without doubt has its moments, the waterfall, the cave scenes, the memorable swamp scene with all the characters oblivious of an anaconda that swims around them, and several others. The concept itself is good enough to be believed, but unfortunately it does lessen the use of a native Borneo (Kalimantan) tribe village to make the movie more interesting. Instead this film just shows the eerie location of it and none of the people, although there is one daunting sight in this village that really really has happened in the real world, I know that, I've seen the photos.

It's such a waste that, again, the snakes are so fake. And added that the performances of the whole cast are exaggerated with no good lines on the dialogue. While actually the betrayal conducted by one of the character is a nice twist, still a cliché but nice. So seeing it in front of your TV would be much more worthwhile than in theater, just grab some chips and enjoy the simple fun.
