The Movie Review

Do you remember how it feels to watch a movie and experience both the exact opposite emotion at the same time, at the same minute? Like perhaps to feel sad and happy, just like what we usually find in comedy romantic films. It's common right? But experiencing fear and joy of laugh at the same time, now that's less common, and less also the movies that give you that kind of opportunity. in year 2006, Enter Evil Aliens. A movie that would repulse you and make you smile or even laugh at the same very moment.

Evil Aliens is a kind of movie that is absolutely not for everybody. It's so generous in its violence and gore with bloody things filling the screen. However, it wraps all that disgusting

parts with dark humour. How is it possible?

Seeing is believing, man... this is more or less just like Evil Dead (1981) and Evil Dead II (1987) that were directed by Spider-man's director, Sam Raimi. Evil Aliens is a horror movie alright, but this horror flick also falls to the rare sub-genre of Splatter flick, which means it fills the whole running length mostly with splattering blood all over.

Yup, the storyline in Evil Aliens is pretty much useless, since this is actually an exploitation movie at heart, in a sense that it depends entirely on gore to make you "entertained', of course for moviegoers who have strong stomach, for others especially the ones that are queasy, Evil Aliens will make you sick and simply feel disgusted.

Alright then, the plot centers on a group of TV crews specialized on airing science fiction and UFO news on their show called Weird Worlde. They now have to report on the latest news of a girl named Cat Williams in Wales that's impregnated by the alien who has just arrived in that remote island in Wales earlier. The crews are the TV-host Michelle Fox (Emily Booth), the UFO expert Gavin Gorman (Jamie Honeybourne) and several others. By the time they're there, Michelle later than admit to the nerdy Gavin that she actually doesn't believe on such things and then tries to recreate the evidence of Alien's arrival as a mere show to Weird Worlde viewers. However, suddenly the real Alien arrive, and soon enough the TV-crew and three barbaric brothers of Cat are engaged in a blood-soaked/drenched/covered battle with the Alien and its one ugly-looking dog.

Everything is about gore and other cut off body parts, and while gore in Evil Aliens is excessively abundant, so is the joke. The alien, is almost like a human with only their head is different (with horns), so most of the time they are pretty much look like actors wearing costumes. It is not a surprise then, recalling the intended theme and the low budget of the movie, which is not more than only $2 million. How is it not ironically funny, when there is even a scene where one of our heroes rides on a combine harvester (big machine to reap and thresh grain) and then runs over the terrified running aliens that slice and dice the aliens into pieces that flies as the machine passes by them, and..with a soundtrack of uplifting farming song. Gorily funny...

However, being an exploitation movie doesn't mean the overall acting quality of the entire cast blows too, nope. In fact, their acting could even blends well with the tone of Evil Aliens. Emily Booth, this foxy actress, is actually a real TV host and presenter such as in Shock Movie Massacre on Bravo and The Big Breakfast. So playing the role of Michelle Fox for Emily probably doesn't require her to act much, besides every time she appears on screen, she instantly steals all the attention with her outfit. No nudity in this film, nevertheless.

The British filmmakers have successfully combined gore and comedy, and once again, this movie is not for everybody. But fellow moviegoers that have actually watched this kinda movie before, in particular like Evil Dead and its sequels, then Evil Aliens probably would be entertaining for you.
