There are many menacing and terrifying creatures out there, one of them is the Lion a.k.a the king of the jungle, that most of us don't give a care about how scary it is until we encounter them, and that's exactly what happens everyday in Africa either to the natives or to tourists as the ones depicted in Prey.

Tom Newman (Peter Weller) along with his daughter Jessica (Carly Schroeder), his son David (Connor Dowds) and his newly wedded wife Amy (Bridget Moynahan) are going on a safari to Africa. There Amy, Jessica and David are going on an off-road trip to explore Africa. On the way Jessica nags Brian the Driver that she doesn't see a single animal yet, Brian takes them off off-road to fulfill Jessica wish, then David tells the group that he wanted to go to the bathroom, and so they pull-off.

Brian escorts David to the bushes while Amy and Jessica are waiting inside the truck, but before David starts to do his personal chore, a ravenous lion shows up and eats Brian while he is running back to the truck. Although David manages to get inside the truck, now the party is left stranded and trapped in the truck while the lions surrounding them. With the dusk approaching they have to figure out what to do, realizing that the truck key is left outside the truck when Brian got eaten.

Prey has a very generic Storyline, so what other aspects can a movie take advantage from when the plot is already derivative? Just to name a few, the acting, the chemistry among the cast, cinematography and CGI. Connor Dowds acting is acclaim-worthy and so too Carly and Bridget, the chemistry built among them is excellent, how Jessica hates Amy, and David as the more tolerant kid are all well connected.

This film spends one-ninth of its running length at the beginning to let us get to know better Tom's family, although there's is one corny soap-opera scene but that's not much of a flaw. The Cinematography is excellent, it presents the beauty of African landscape, and CGI Lions are just remarkable. And of course one the most important aspect of a movie is its entertaining value, Prey provides the tense and spine-tingling moments that horror fans will like with enough gory moments too.

There are not much actors or actresses running around and screaming wildly in Prey, but that's just what the audience needs to get in touch with the main characters, and it proves how brilliant this movie is to horrify us with such minimum elements.
