Delight! This is what I'm talking about! A movie that also a masterpiece of art! My Favorite team is back! Tim burton with Helena Bonham Carter and of course the great chameleon Johnny Depp!
So many horror movies and so-to-say gory slasher movies inflicted pain upon the good guys or the weaker of the herds, in a totally random order and it seems it was done only to show the filmmakers brutal capacity in hurting people, but Sweeney Todd does it in art, in musical to be exact. Sweeney Todd is actually based on a 19th century legend of Sweeney Todd that became a show on broadway which its series of performances have gained so many awards throughout the decades. Now in 2007, moviegoers could actually see this legend in the big screen. Welcome welcome Mr. Todd.
Benjamin Barker is an honest and simple barber in London who has a very beautiful wife. A wicked and sleazy judge Turpin has secretly falling in love with Barker's wife, so he sentenced Barker under false charge to be sent to Australia for 15 years. Upon returning to London, Benjamin Barker changed his name to Sweeney Todd, and starts to occupie his old barbershop that is now belong to Mrs. Lovett who sells "the worst pies in London'. Together they work as a team to build a new life but only one thing in mind, revenge. A revenge that consumes Mr. Todd so deeply that alters him into a demented person.
Mr. Tim Burton is back with his dark and gritty style of directing, and he has just got even better with this film. What a superb camerawork, indeed. And all the actors are performing superbly! although you could still see Johnny Depp's trademark just like the ones he used to be, such as in Pirates of the Caribbean (2003) or Sleepy Hollow (1999). But that's absolutely not bad, I was just chuckling on how he always does that.
I surely don't wanna see a barber any time soon
Gore world is now spiced up with great actors, superb directing, astounding story and moving musical soundtracks! and a great payback for an item named Vengeance! The story and the dialogue let us feel what Todd feels, let us emphatize for what he has suffered from, and let us hate what he hates, that's for the revenge is going to be sweet, oh yes, it's going to be very sweet. But don't get too smyphatize yet for Mr. Todd since the nickname of Demon Barber doesn't stand for nothing, oh yes he is wicked too and this is probably the excuse for all the bloody scenes.
I'm puting this film under the Horror & Thriller genre because even though it is based on musical broadway but the content itself would make leaving the theater or turning off your TV NOT with a joyful feeling like when you're watching like The Sound of Music, no no no, it makes you feel amazed and a bit bewildered for a moment for its perfect combination of music and horror.
