Familiar with the way sometimes the British filmmakers make their horror movies? If you do, this movie may not surprise you anymore, but if you don't you might get baffled. The British sometimes put a lot of dose of comedy into their horror movie, perhaps at first it seems odd, but if you like it, this movie will not just make you terrified (an obligatory job of all horror movies) but it will also entertain you.

The Cottage is basically about a crime plan gone awry. Two brothers, the clumsy little brother Peter (Reece Shearsmith) and the mastermind David (Andy Serkis) are kidnapping Tracy (Jennifer Ellison) the sassy daughter of an underworld boss with the help of Tracy's own dimwit step-brother Andrew (Steven O'Donnell). David and Peter hold Tracy captive in an isolated cottage in a rural area. That night they are waiting for Andrew who is going to bring the ransom for the three of them. Unbeknownst to them, Andrew is trailed by two Korean merciless mercenaries sent by his father (the crime boss) to finish them off. Their cat and mouse game has extended to even reach an unknown land near the cottage where more horrifying surprises await them...silently.

The below sentence could be a spoiler, or could make the film even more interesting, it's your call. I've warned you though. What awaits them is a psychotic and deformed cannibal farmer (Dave Legeno) who occasionally feed on the ill-fated trespassers roaming his land. Now they have to put aside their enmity and figure out how to get the heck out of that wretched land.
--End of Spoiler Possibility Alert.

I've gotta say, the British formula has done it again very well this time. Although it does belong to the Slasher sub-genre, it proofs to be distinguished. Forget all the college students with their recurring stereotypes, the character in The Cottage are unique but evenhanded. Peter the spoiled with his brother David the tough, Andrew the can't-do-anything-right character and his step-sister Tracy with her Cockney accent, that also makes the dialogue between them more memorable and her guts that even tops Peter's. All their characters blend harmoniously to the continuity of the story. And not to forget the musical score that uses Classical tunes, which kinda makes you chuckle in amazement.

For the horror aficionados, there are some great gory scenes here to be enjoyed. The Cottage is once again one of British movies that is scary and at the same time entertaining. Congrats.
