The Movie Review

Motel...a place to seek refuge, an oasis in the middle of nowhere, a comfort couch and a comfort bed await for the tired mind and body. Motel... a sanctuary, is it?

Vacancy once again trying to prove that a motel is anything but a safe haven. Normally, people who search for a motel would be very relieved to find Vacancy sign displayed on it, unfortunately this is not the case in this movie.

David (Luke Wilson) and Amy Fox (Kate Beckinsale) are a couple in crisis who plunged into even more critical situation when they take the wrong shortcut and then their car breaks down in the middle of nowhere (of course) in the middle of the

night. Lucky for them, they find a motel to spend the night at, although it's a shoddy place and run by a mysteriously creepy manager Mason (Frank Whaley). Bored by the situation and having nothing else to do (sex is not an option for the soon-to-be-divorced couple), David decides to watch B-grade slasher movies, where the actors and actresses being brutally raped and murdered, and what a terrifying sight to behold when the couple realizes, the starking similarities of the room in the movie and the room they are staying at now. David frantically finds that they are being watched by a set of cameras at almost every corner of the room.

The premise is not a novelty one, but unlike teen slasher movies where they depend almost entirely at good looking hunks and dishes, Luke Wilson and especially Kate Beckinsale give a top notch acting for a horror film like this. The intensity is well kept throughout the movie, not a single moment for me to rest my eyes, chasing and running, climbing and crawling, yelling and screaming, we talk about one good slasher movie with a good dose of action and a quite satisfying act of revenge in the end.

Vacancy film still
One of the scariest shows on TV!

Rumor has it that initially Sarah Jessica Parker was the one who's going to role as Amy, but I personally find that Beckinsale with her frightened expression can not be replaced by Parker. And oh, before I forget, don't expect to see nudity or something like that except for a brief moment in the video, besides for a good movie like this, moment of nudity would just ruin the persistent pace of terror.
