The Movie Review
Famous Director Roland Emmerich, has recently released his newest epic movie entitled 10,000 BC. Roland was widely known for his grand-scale films, such as Independence Day that's headlined by Will Smith and also The Day After Tomorrow concerning Global Warming. With his newest movie he tries to take us on a journey 12,008 years back from now.
The story of 10000 BC is mainly about the prophecy of a young boy named D'leh (Steven Strait) and a young girl named Evolet (Camille Belle). D'leh is the son of a hunter in a remote mountain tribe called the Yagahl, while Evolet is a survivor from a vanished tribe who mysteriously appears in D'leh

village. The wise old woman foretells that there will be a devastating threat comes from the four legged demons in the last day of the hunt in years to come, but a hero will also emerge and Evolet will be his lifetime partner.
Several years later, on one unfortunate night, a band of marauders raids D'leh village, kill some of its inhabitants and finally kidnap Evolet and some people from the village. They are taken into a secluded place called the Mountain of the Gods, where they will be enslaved for the rest of their life. D'leh with his mentor Tic 'Tic (Cliff Curtis) form a band of warriors along with other several tribes they come across along the way. On their journey they must encounter saber-tooth tigers and other prehistoric predators to get to their destination, when they will discover the most magnificent place at that time.
I don't usually bitch about epic film, but I just can't help to say that 10,000 BC is just like seeing the Indian fighting the Vikings, almost exactly from I found in Pathfinder, and every little part of the formula has extremely stark resemblance with the one from Apocalypto. They mix up the Arabian, Indian, Caucasian, Tibetan, Mayan and African and African and some more African and Bam! we got prehistoric people. How nice...
Make up, make up, and only make up but brainless. I definitely able to forgive and set aside some illogical details for a good entertaining movie, but 10,000 BC just doesn't provide the interesting scenes needed to be enjoyed. For a large-scale and ambitious epic movie like this, the battle scenes are mediocre, and the drama scenes are also mediocre, errr...below mediocre. Everything looks very artificial. I do admire the fur on the animals like the ones on the Mammoth, but that too is just not enough. We could easily tell the saber-tooth tiger is really a CGI creation in one scene in the village. And if you ever see this film, listen to the way the Marauders talk, their voice is something outer-space like.
It's very rare that I found myself stifling a yawn in seeing an epic movie, however in seeing 10,000 BC, I just wish for it to end fast, it's boring or in other word...mind-numbing. Maximum ambition doesn't always generate Maximum performance. In 10,000 BC, maximum is minimum.
