The Movie Review
Ah yes... 22 Bullets, a splendid action flick which I picked to see in Makassar, South Sulawesi. We were taking a holiday to Makassar or also known as Ujung Pandang where we experienced culinary travel basically searching for a good food unique to Makassar with the help of Hotel guide. Staying at Grand Clarion in Panakukkang area, we had no problem of renting a car (slightly cheaper than in Jakarta) and asking the driver to take us anywhere delicious :-)

View from our budget hotel on the last day Overlooking the famous Losari Beach
And we're also travel-spots-hopping from Losari beach --which was very crowded on Saturday Night until 3 AM!-- to Trans Studio Mal where we explored almost all the Rides and Attractions and then to various unique Mosques to Bantimurung Waterfall indulge in cave exploring --That's why I personally psyched about Sanctum (2011) [screened at Blitz Megaplex]. Anyhow after had been exposed to Makassar's good weather but hot sun, we missed hanging out at the Mall eventually.... Haiyaahhh teteeep!
Hundreds of Makassar Football Club (PSM) supporters celebrating a Victory
"Okay, think no more, let's just walk to Mal Panakukkang" We had this urge for donuts and yoghurt, and the closest mall to our hotel is of course Mal Panakukkang which has 21 Cineplex movie theatre called Panakukkang XXI. We had a debate over what to watch that day, but since I had accompanied her back and forth to Sumba Opu --a road specialized in gift shop and souvernirs (Pusat Oleh-Oleh)-- that time... I got to pick the movie! 22 Bullets, yes, me likey French action film! And I chose the right movie.
Featuring Jean Reno, 22 Bullets AKA L'immortel is a fast, brutal, intense and deeply emotional movie which carefully combining action with drama which produce more than just bullets spraying. 22 Bullets is a great film. Jean Reno stars as Charly Matteï, a retired underworld crime lord who has been enjoying peaceful life to the fullest with his mother, wife, and 2 children. But his retirement is soon be over when suddenly a group of men wearing masks pumping bullets to the unsuspecting man leaving him bleeding to death and 22 bullets inside his body.
With the help of his friend, Karim (Moussa Maaskri), Charly finds out it's actually his own friend since teenagers, Tony Zacchia (Kad Merad), who'd schemed to eliminate Charly. Charly, at first, curbs his own anger because wanting to avoid further bloodshed in Marseille, but Tony is one sadistic man who continues to terror Charly's closed and loved ones. And when Tony and his gang has really crossed the line, Charly Matteï wields his gun once more and go on a gentleman-like bad-guys hunting spree... Charly warns them first hand that he will come for them one.. by.. one...
Apparently the character Charly Matteï is based on true person in France named Jacques "Mad Jacky" Imbert which was regarded as feared mafia boss in Southern France. The premise and/or underlining story of 22 Bullets is far from being a novelty of some kind with the usual bullets exchanged and car chasing but nevertheless, Jean Reno solid performance as this man fed up with violence but forced to kill again is not the only main positive point to make this movie escape the hackeneyed theme of revenge. It has distinctive feel of emotional connection between Charly and his men or Charly and his opponents. Because the writers imbue personalities to each character. We know why Charly goes on a vengeful mission because of his friend got murdered because right because this person got tortured we see how good he is in his family. It is this kind of personal life that often forgot by other action movies
