The Movie Review
Bad things have follower. It is sarcastically still a wonder. But if the follower manages to be even worse than the original, now that's a true wonder. With this movie review I would like to state differences between hate a movie subjectively and hate a movie in a quality term. I'll explain to you later on.
99 Pieces revolves around the life of Joshua Licet, a dentist who has to stay in his house with his wife for 40 days and 40 nights. They are under the surveillance and terror of a mysterious person who seems to know their every move. Both Joshua (Anthony Falcon) and Rebecca (April Potter) have to endure through starvation, lack of sanitation and claustrophobic

solitude.
That's it?! Yes that's it. There is all we would get plus some useless drama about revelation of both Joshua and Rebecca's sins to each other. And before I forget, there's also one thing that Joshua and Rebecca suffer that they kindheartedly shares it with the audience, darkness. They have to live in total darkness with no electricity whatsoever except for one flash light. We got to see them mostly in dark lighting that instead of feeling terrified, it' a total snooze fest! It's the same boredom that we feel when having a blackout, which I would prefer to go outside and burn some fireworks.
I was flabbergasted, shocked, stunned during the viewing of 99 Pieces and even speechless for almost 10 minutes after watching this horror movie. It's not because of 99 Pieces has achieved such a amazing feat and delivered wondrous things. It's actually the Exact Opposite of that. Take the words Good, Awesome, Exciting, Intriguing, Thrilling, and Amusing, then quick! Get the dictionary and find the other side of the moon of all those words. That's 99 Pieces. And I'm gonna straight shoot, 99 Pieces is without shame ripping off Saw in every-possible-thing-that-is-easy-to-copy. But here is when things get really awful, instead of mimicking the intensity and clever storyline of Saw (the first one, and not the sickuels), 99 Pieces is delivering the wannabe premise, the pieces of the puzzle, the claustrophobic set, and even the husky sound! Yes my friends, it even mimics Jigsaw's voice! But..... it's not cool and it's not scary instead it's just like the rapper-wannabe-but-will-never-be version of Jigsaw. And just wait until you see the mysterious person that terrorizes Joshua and Rebecca, oh you are in for even bigger disappointment, that after a long time waiting the movie to reveal the main villain, all you got is a person that in one scene runs cowardly like a terrified little boy.
There were some movies that I feel very reluctant giving it a zero, and the only reason I was doing so was for the sake of moviegoers' entertainment. And there were also movies that I hated, but I had to admit their creditable features. But there is a movie that even crosses the line that makes me both equally hate it and not able to point interesting achievement out of it. And hate is not strong enough a word. 99 Pieces is utterly abysmal. And the ending...., oh oh oh my my my, one of the worst ending scenes ever. I appreciate indie movies, and they even might have novelty storyline or 'heart' to offer, and I don't mind the cliché, and sometimes I could still tolerate some really awful movies, but this is so unbelievably undeniably unwatchable! Including confused camerawork that try so hard to by stylish by shaking the cam in close-up mode. The only good thing, that even though very minor but I have to be honest, is the performance of April Potter and the quite acceptable acting of Anthony Falcon.
This horror film even makes me want to upgrade all movies with zero stars..., or on the contrary, giving 99 Pieces a negative star. This is what makes people doesn't believe in indie movies. 99 Pieces is not so-bad-it's-good, and is not campy amusing, it is simply so so bad and pure... 'Avoid It'!
