Storyline:3.5 stars

Overall:
3.5 stars

You know, it doesn't need a big place or expensive set to make a good science fiction movie. Sometimes, just a small one will do, and in this case just a supermarket. But, the overall entertainment that you''ll have is anything but small. Yup, Alien Raiders is a saucy low-budget film.

At a local supermarket in Buck Lake, Mr. Tarkey the owner along with his staff are already preparing to close offthe supermarket when a bunch of armed men storm in and take hostages. The group led by Ritter (Carlos Bernard) is not there to rob the supermarket, it's even weirder. With the help of one of their members called Spooky (Philip Newby), Ritter and the gang are examining their faces one by one, and shooting randomly as Spooky confirms the target. Not very long, cops arrive and surround the area. With only 6 people left as hostages, Ritter tells Sterling (Courtney Ford) to inspect each and every one of the hostages with oddly cringing-inducing method. A glimpse of hope arises since one of the hostages named Whitney is the stepdaughter of the negotiator, Seth.

However considering that Ritter and his band are not looking for money, the hostages try to solve it by themselves. Will the hostages survive? And what is Ritter and the gang are really looking for if they're not interested in money?

Compelling from the first till the end. It captures your attention right from the very moment where Ritter storm the supermarket. With opening scene that resembles more of an action film, Alien Raiders slowly develops into a good science fiction movie with enough thriller to make your eyes lucked unto the screen. Not to forget the twists, hmm very nice. Especially the ending twist is quite a shocker. The gory is not that much, but with a script this good, I personally don't think that the filmmakers needed to resort to blood and women's flesh to keep their audience entertained.

The performances of Carlos Bernard, Jeffrey Licon and Courtney Ford are very excellent, just see how Courtney performs near the end of the movie, it's shaking and touching. Now this is an alien movie, so I guess you might expect for some cool alien monster. Nothing bizzare or novel about the alien, it's just "attractive enough" and simply won't disappoint. And although the concept of Alien raider is very similar to The Mist, I still respect Alien Raiders for not resorting to some cheap-looking CGI to patch things up.

Alien Raiders successfully delivers about 1 and a half hour of solid entertainment. This science fiction film simply know how to amuse its audiences.
