2006 saw a lot of slasher movies pouring out, making all horror aficionados worldwide became more frequent going to the cinema or even buying some DVDs. The year was ornamented by some great slashers like The Hills Have Eyes (2006), Turistas (2006), or Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006), so probably for the sake of marketing strategy it was a good decision not to release the DVD of All the Boys Love Mandy Lane in that year, let a lone theatrical release. But the title got me very curious. All the Boys Love Mandy Lane. Why? What so hot 'n hip about Mandy Lane? Let's see together if all slasher fans (okay, at least MOST) would also love Mandy Lane...

In a highschool, a girl named Mandy Lane (Amber Heard) is highly popular. Every time she walks by, all eyes are locked up following every move of her body in a slow motion astonishment moment. Mandy doesn't have a boyfriend but she does have a very loyal best friend, Emmet (Michael Welch). One day Mandy is invited by her best friend, Chloe (Whitney Able) to go to a remote ranch house of one of their wealthy friend, Red (Aaron Himelstein). Of course the main purpose of the male is to score Mandy since no single guy has ever dated Mandy before and these three guys are desperate to go to at least Base 1.

In the ranch, they got to know a cool dude named Garth (Anson Mount), an employee of Red's parents. Not very long the six of them are enjoying their time talking and fornicating. But suddenly, an unknown man kills them silently one by one. Who is he really? And what is his purpose?

Definitely not everyone would love this movie. And I can only make assumption but I'm sure the serious fans of slasher would be disappointed with the result. Every character needs the F-word as their dialogue building block and it's not cool, it's just lame. Furthermore, the conversations between the characters just circle around fatness, pubic hair, wiener size and everything childish. And this movie is not a drama about sexual awakening, mind you.

The characters are the awful part. Not a single sympathetic main character to be found. All the dudes and the chicks are jerks and their action all are highly unbelievable. Mate! You don't have to be a jerk to be cool. But the worst part is Mandy Lane. No, she's not a jerk but she's also NOT Lovable. And I don't mean anything condescending here, But you won't see anything special about her except the fact that she's good at athletic. Mandy would not be a great friend either, she's just ok. Compare how Mary could be charming and radiant in There's Something About Mary (1998). In short, she's nothing special. In fact she's pretty much wooden that one might think that there was someone who constantly whispered to Amber, "Behave Mandy, Behave."

Yep, yep, yep, unfortunately so is the movie, Nothing special. Just a slasher with poppycock dialogue, childish jokes and failed attempt at being cool. Besides, I value the character named Chloe more than Mandy herself, at least she shows emotion and brave enough to to do blatant topless screen ala slasher, while Amber Heard just merely close her mouth and do nothing special.

The camerawork is good, the sound effects and the musical score are great although they cue to anything shocking or surprising. The special effects are nice but the gore is dry. But the worst part of all is the ending. It's actually already almost-decent enough for this slasher film to move along without any twist or pretending to be clever, that at least we could still enjoy as simple plain slasher, but suddenly.... oh oh something unexpected happen near the ending. That I should put it as one the worst ending ever in slasher realm. Illogical, off-putting, and made me just want to throw popcorn to the screen! The story in the beginning does not support this illogical twist.

No offense here, but if you have never seen any slasher before, or any good horror movie (I don't know how old are you anyway mate), then you could probably enjoy the movie, but even so a rent is just a enough.
