There is nothing worse than being left alone, especially in the dark. But guess what fellas, there is something worse than that, and that is being left alone in the cinema watching "Alone in the Dark". Alone is what I call it, because there is almost no one there to see the movie, the moviegoers are largely spaced. And I don't mean that it's bad because it's frightening to watch a horror film alone in the cinema, no, it's because it's so unbelievably hard to stay awake watching a boring movie with no friend to talk (euh whisper) to. So, period, there is nothing worse than that, right? Guess again. Duh! A sequel came out! And again, it's time to watch and review it, luckily (and thankfully) this time I get to see it on Video, at least I could 'trap' my friends to see it with me.

Alone in the Dark (again?!) 2 has nothing to do with the first entry, it's solely about a group of witch hunters, which comprises of such boring characters. Edward Carnby (Rick Yune) is the guy who accidentally chosen to be the savior of this group. He could either choose to side with the old-age Witch Elisabeth Dexter (Alison Lange) and given the supernatural power or to side with the witch hunters and probably date Natalie (Rachel Specter), the hot dish of the group. The problem is, Edward is in a bad condition after being betrayed and in an unconscious state he should never ever stare to the mirror in his dream, or else the witch will come and get them.

Upon hearing Alone in the Dark 2, you might wonder 'would Uwe Boll also direct this sequel?', the answer is no. But he was the producer behind AitD 2, And this time he managed once more to make famous actors and actresses to star in his film, and made us once more wonder why would those famous actors starred in his movies. Lance Henriksen, Danny Trejo, Ralf Moeller and of course Bill Moseley. At the very least, the appearance of these names (usually) imply both good acting and strong performance. So in turn I was also expecting AitD 2 (or Alone in the Dark 2: Fate of Existence) would be some sort of good indie movie with solid storyline. Bummer, I got nothing from both expectations. The acting is horrible and the storyline is mind-numbingly boring. Considering the acting particularly, it is such a shame the worst act comes from the leading actor Rick Yune, he is so unbelievably wooden. I can't believe how much he ruins this already-ruined movie, even his hurt expression seems so fake. All he does is pretty much crawling around moaning or just simply talk without moving his mouth or stare emptily when saying things. He should be given something to show his martial arts skill instead of this. Thanks to the appearance of Lance and Danny who always solid as usual, it's the only redeeming factor of AitD 2. It's such a waste to leave strong actor like Bill Moseley with limited character development. He's so menacingly infamous with his role in The Devil's Rejects (2005) along with Danny Trejo (who is his enemy in that film btw).

The storyline, is more or less following how the witch hunters planning their strategy, bonding between them, their history of witch-hunter-ing, the battle between the wicked witch and the munchkins (euh sorry I mean the witch hunters) and a bit of spark of PG-13-love between Edward with Natalie. It goes all around those activities, and while those ingredients may indeed be the one that ignite audience's attention, sadly they fail.

And even more unfortunately, contrary to the first Alone in the Dark (2005), the sequel is getting worse reaching the ending scene. When AitD evolves from worse to better (still in the bad area though), AitD 2 evolves from entertaining to confused mess. At least the sequel is not trying to be big like the first one, it knows itself as a DTV, and for a DTV, and I don't need to watch it alone inside the cinema.
