Some creatures are just lucky to be born funny and adorable. But you know what? It turns out that some filmmakers are just lucky to be able to use funny creatures in their comedy movie even though the story is far from being funny.

The movie starts with how Alvin, Simon and Theodore end up in Dave's house. Dave (Jason Lee) is a failed musician who creates only out-of-date tunes, as his friend Ian Hawke (who is also Jett Records producer) might put it. Dave who thinks that Alvin and friends are nothing but trouble starts to grow respect on them when knowing that they could also sing very well. Dave's career is improving by having Alvin, Simon and Theodore by his side. Ian who initially rejects Dave, schemes to take advantage of these talkin' n singin' rodents. But Alvin (Justin Long), Simon (Matthew Gray Gubler), Theodore (Jesse McCartney) are just naive kids, and Dave has to realize that he loves them (in spite of Dave's allergy to the word "family"), before he loses them forever.

Alvin and the Chipmunks takes advantage of Chipmunk funny figure, and to my bewilderment despite its bad storyline, the theater always filled with enthusiastic moviegoers wanting to see this movie. Well, parents, be patience, even though this film doesn't fully entertain you, I think the kids love it. However the singing scenes by the Chipmunks could probably amuse you too.

I'm a fan of Alvin and the Chipmunks myself. I do also love Chip and Dale from Walt Disney, but Alvin and friends feels more real since they communicate with real people instead of with a duck (Donald Duck). And I admit I have blurry memory of all Alvin episodes on TV, but the clear-sighted part of my memory told me that this movie brings different atmosphere. And I kinda like the TV version. Fortunately, all actors and actresses perform decently, most notably the actors who do the speaking and singing voices of the Chipmunks are performing wonderfully.

Nevertheless I have to spit it out what I think it is..., chipmunk is funny; Alvin, Simon and Theodore in this movie are funny; this movie is not.
