There's no dying for American Pie franchise isn't there? Well that's okay, it's even more than okay because surprisingly the spin-offs are much much more funnier and presenting more beautiful hot chicks for you to dig! But why this 7th installment of the franchise only gets 1.5 stars? Simple... Because this movie SUCKS! It ain't funny, it ain't interesting and if not because of the hot women running around and doing perfectly nothing other than getting their top opened (read: topless), then even fast-forwarding remote control can not save this trash from awfulness. No wonder, the writer is also the one who wrote American Pie 2 (2001), the worst of American Pie original series.
A guy who looks much much older named Rob (Bug Hall) is trying to get the love of his best friend, Heidi (Beth Behrs), with a bonus of hoping to get inside her pants too. He has two equally bone-headed male friends, Nathan (Kevin M. Horton) who is dizzy of thinking how to score with his abstinence-enrolled girlfriend which means she refuses to have sex before marriage (although she has done it with 7 males before). and Lube (Brandon Hardesty), a chubby guy who is really into a hot cheerleader, Ashley (Jennifer Holland). Will they get laid?
But hey.... Where's Stifler? He's present alright but he's not under the spotlight anymore. The movie focuses on how these three high school students accidentally discover the legendary book of love, search for the original writer, Mr. Levenstein (Eugene Levy), and use the contents to their advantage.
American Pie The Book of Love runs in a very simple storyline. And simplicity in storyline of a comedy is something very acceptable and fairly regular. But what is unusual of how this movie could actually repel its audience not only with its absence of humor but with disgusting scenes. Disgusting scenes which without the comedy imbued in them will make you downright repugnant instead of laughing at the gross scenes. The acting is a ok, but everyone is a miscast. The soundtracks are great and the cinematography is a standard fare but the story is... Oh, What the f*ck?!
And speaking about f*ck, as usual, American Pie spin-offs is full of naked chicks. Many topless girls ranging from real to fake rounded breasts. Some even can be seen running fully naked from the front, that's what they call as full frontal nudity. But this installment really does tarnish the amusement-level of the American Pie film series. The nudity level is way lower than American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile (2006), the chemistry and/or romanticism is definitely poorer to American Pie (1999), and the jokes are lesser than.... Well, it's 99% almost NONE!
How can you sympathize for a bunch of guys who look already unconvincing as persons of teen age. Rob looks to old and the-regularly-awaited Stifler looks too tired and forced to be one of the members of Stifler's clan. And then their love interests are anything but appealing, not in terms of hotness but in terms of personality. There is nothing captivating about the story and most of the time I could only wish, "C'mon let's get over with! What it's still xx minutes to go? Where's a nude girls when you need one?" And when I saw this so-called comedy, I'd just finished seeing the awful b-movie Beauty and the Beast (2010), and I still think it's more entertaining (only without nude chicks). So skip this movie altogether and hopefully the anticipated American Pie Reunion in 2012 would be something really amusing.
