What is so wrong with being a virgin...?!
Different culture does hold different value, some think of professional sex-er as a great company in bed but some do value virginity more than anything. But if you are a virgin and you're in a society of professional virgins, then I guess being tricked into becoming a porn star is your definite definition of hell on earth.
Wait, what?! Professional Virgin? A Society? Yup, in this raunchy comedy, Jenna Dewan (of Step Up (2006)) fame stars as professional virgin with perfect behavior and ultra polite manner. Priscilla is very lucky to be given a scholarship to Pennington College by her organization called "Can't Hurry Love" that promotes chastity. Attending a university full of varied characters, instead of getting a good-mannered virgin as her roommate, she's stuck with the most notorious girl who never graduates named Natalie Reed or better known as "The Naz" (Brianne Davis), who loves to do some sexing and fornicating. And because of her, Priscilla eventually gets to be videotaped while doing some nasty stuff in front of all the people at a party while wearing a moose head.
And the worst part is, she's not taped by some amateur guys, but by a very sleazy adult film producer, Ed Curtzman (Rob Schneider), who cares nothing except for profit and his skin shows. Priscilla is not just going to be shamed all across nation but her scholarship is also gonna be cancelled for good. So to help Priscilla, Naz, Kevin (Elan Moss-Bachrach) and Chuck (Chase Ryan Jeffery) who falls for Priscilla are helping her finding that producer to get the tape back. What will happen in their journey?
The writer apparently opted this film to move on in a fast lane of boob*es and t*tties, a type of brainless movie with almost zero storyline that its plotline might appeal only to people who barely know what movie is. He could've made this comedy into a fun road trip movie instead of focusing solely on Priscilla's struggle to keep her virginity. There is absolutely no twist in this skin flick comedy, most moviegoers would know how this movie would turn out to be. Oh no, wait, the end twist is really a forced one. It's a shame, since it would've made a great road trip movie with that kind of premise, which is similar to Road Trip (2000), although the reason is different.
American Virgin should've sent back through time machine to the 70s, that way it might be valued more by the grindhouse fans. I'm not saying the topless girlsss --that's lotsa of girls-- are not attractive, boy they're hot, but c'mon, the movie really feels so cheap. It almost seems the movie or the story was written just to show off some breasts, and the main story of Priscilla's virginity abstinence slowly fading out to the background. Okay, the idea of flying boobies is wacky and the situation is a festive all the time, but that's clearly not enough to label this as "Buy It".
The acting? Well, just ok, Jenna Dewan was like on some adrenaline shot all the time, but it's a plus on this almost boring movie, but to think that her newly-found friends would do all sort of things for her is ridiculous... Give us some solid story dear writer, then you'd likely instill memorable impression on your viewers. But I do cherish the much better ending part (by overlooking the aforementioned twist of course), with some genuine feel-good and humorous way to wrap things up. But surprisingly as brainless as it is and though the comedy is rather a failure (read: no laughing induced), but the one-liners are actually funny, if not philosophically heavy. Still, it's amusing enough.
Renting it would be a wise choice for the lovers of the genre, besides thanks to the cast, this movie set itself higher than most National Lampoon's quick cash raunchy comedies.
