BATTLE
LOS ANGELES
Storyline:4 stars
Cast:4 stars
Ending:4 stars
Overall:
4.5 stars

I heard from a talented (and friendly!) actress, Jenny Spain, from my personal facebook that San Diego, Arizona to Tijuana are having severe black out today (Sept 9th 2011), when I google it up, well it looks freakishly worrying indeed and is coincidentally also pertaining Camp Pendleton (just like this movie). And then a news-ticker from a News TV Station in Indonesia informs that there will be Supernova Blast tonight! And then my room door won't open because the key stuck and I have to be instant carpenter! (okay it doesn't relate, but I just want to share it hehehe :p) Anyhow, this afternoon is the perfect time then to see Battle Los Angeles!

Battle Los Angeles film still 2

A terrifyingly large amount of Meteors are striking various parts of the world, Tokyo, coast of California, Ireland, Bengal and pretty much every major sites in the world. Instead of amazed on how beautiful the phenomenon is, the government of United States begins to worry due to the fact that those meteors are slowing down nearing impact and every tightly packed cluster of meteors seems organized with one big mechanical figure inside the cluster! No doubt, this is an official Alien Invasion! The highly lauded Marine Staff Sergeant Nantz (Aaron Eckhart) is called back from his retirement to guide a brilliant (but inexperienced) 2nd Lieutenant Martinez (Ramon Rodriguez) and his platoon in an important mission to retrieve the civilians trapped inside the hot zone in Los Angeles. Flown from Camp Pendleton, Nantz and his team might not be prepared to face the heavily-armed and strange enemies from outer space, but they have to give their best and move forward whatever it takes because Los Angeles right now is one of Mankind last defense lines...

Battle Los Angeles film still 3

Everybody was so psyched about Harry Potter 7.2 (2011) and it failed some fans for being not the best of all Harry Potter movies considering it's the last one! And then Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon (2011) which is good but somehow feels weird and you might get "hurt" by the 3D. And then Captain America (2011) or The Smurfs (2011) but it just got screened yesterday!. And also Kung Fu Panda 2 (2001) but it's a top-notch movie though. But, everyone seems totally oblivious of World Invasion: Battle LA, while its poster has been hanging for several months under "Coming Soon" category. Shame shame shame, this movie rocks! Awesome, heart-pumping adrenaline depicting all out war between alien while stripping away any element of humor which might be the inhibitor for the audience to feel the war!

That's right, watching World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles AKA Battle Los Angeles feels like we're being in a real war. So I'm really looking forward to see this again in Cinemas! Excellent camerawork which capture the right angle and maybe a bit shaky. But, right from the get-go, this alien invasion movie is already all about intense actions! Thousands and thousand ear-deafeningly awesome sounds of Bullets spraying, explosions, the sights of debris, ruined buildings, the intense sequences of running, shadowing, ducking, dashing, climbing, self-sacrificing, screaming, crying and every fu*king thing related to action moments! The pacing is one of the perfect one in the movie world. No Bullsh*t just some dedicated marines (actors) keep on doing high-octane actions.

The flaw is probably when the movie hits around 70 minute mark, it begins to feel like there is nothing more of concern except for the sake of actions, and although some scenes are definite clichés from past war movies but fortunately, Aaron Eckhart and the rest of the cast could pull it through! Aaron is a charming leader and a dedicated one, he seems very well absorbed in his role as Staff Seargant Nantz, Michelle Rodriguez's role however feels marginalized and serves as some kind of eye-candy (and Thank you dear writers for giving us someone other than all males!), but basically it is the action skill from the cast which is needed in Battle Los Angeles, and to that extent, they are pretty awesome I tell you that! The CGI is superb! The alien spaceship is cool! The alien creature (non-CGI parts) is marvelous (remind you the time of Predator (1987) and even the latest movie in Predator series, Predators (2010), is no-match for Battle Los Angeles)! The sound effects are just splendid!

World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles is an excellent science fiction action movie ornamented with enough drama, touching scenes, brotherhood, sacrificial act of heroism, and a heavy heavy dose of action till the end credits role! I think I'm gonna be seeing this movie for more than once, once it hits the movie theaters!

> Science Fiction action motion pictures even better than Battle Los Angeles: District 9 (2009) and Starship Troopers (1997).

> Pesky Alien Invasions are everywhere: Independence Day (1996), and the humorous Evolution (2001) or Alien Trespass (2009).
