You don't go to see this movie with someone with Claustrophic! That would be a tasteless cruel joke! Why the heck no, because Buried is very effective in inflicting horror and not only that you'll grow to relate to the main protagonist, but it will also induce scary feelings of Claustrophobia even for those who doesn't have it. Yet.
Buried, my friend, is a movie which brings the feeling of fear of being trapped inside a tightly close container is enlivened in such engaging and realistic manner. Buried revolves around a married man named Paul Conroy. Paul (Ryan Reynolds) suddenly wakes up inside a tightly sealed wooden coffin with his mouth gagged. And inside the coffin, Paul also finds some other stuff like flashlight, lighter and a cellphone with Arabic letters as the language. Clearly, Paul Conroy is put there with purpose. But for what purpose? Why is he there? And what will happen to a man being left alone inside a coffin?
If I to elaborate further in the storyline/synopsis section, it would be a spoiler. Buried has a very engaging storyline which unfortunately would only be felt as "engaging" after about 15 or 20 minutes into the movie. I have to admit, during the beginning or early scenes, Buried can be quite boring to see but afterwards, the story picks up the pace and it gets really emotional by the scene. It's interesting actually how some viewers claimed to have been able to react smarter than Paul Conroy in a same situation and consider Paul Conroy as some kind of blithering idiot... He is suddenly sealed alone, unable to move freely and endure the utmost certainty of his fate and facing an array of ignorant people over the phone which his only means to reach the "outside world". But no matter what your opinions are, Ryan Reynolds's performance is spellbinding. Seriously, the whole one and a half hour is exclusively and solely about Paul Conroy! Not a single shot outside the coffin and not a single sight of other actors! Only their voices which are heard in a conversation with Paul Conroy through his cellphone.
Anyone who loves a novelty in story in horror/thriller genre surely have to check this out. You will miss life on the outside with all the sunrays, rain, and bustling of the city after you see Buried. Buried is not gory or violent, but it is a very disturbing movie and the image and feel of seeing Paul Conroy trapped alone like that would stick in your mind for a while.
