Code Name: The Cleaner reminded me that bad movies are not just falling into categories of being so-bad-it's-good or just simply being bad or making you feel bad or depressed, to name a few. But there is also a type of comedy that makes you feel bad for the movie itself. Code Name: The Cleaner gives me that bad feeling, it makes me feel bad for all the fail efforts that the filmmakers and the actors have given to entertain their audiences. It's pretty clear that they put heart into their works, but sometimes putting a heart is just not enough, you've gotta put some mind into it too. And a very deep-thought one.

A man (Cedric the Entertainer) wakes up in a Pacific Crest Hotel room where he finds a wound on his head. And aside of that, he also finds a dead man sleeping beside him and a suitcase full of money as much as $ 250,000. But, he doesn't have the slightest clue for what has happened before and he doesn't even remember his own name. Panic for his absence of memory, when this man tries to escape from that hotel, a hot woman named Diane (Nicollette Sheridan) picks him up and takes him to a big house. But things are more complicated than that when while ordering food in a diner, another woman named Gina (Lucy Liu) claims as his girlfriend. Torn between reality and his blurry flashbacks, this man who we soon know as Jake Rodgers, tries to put the missing pieces into his frame of memory. Who is he really? What is he doing in that hotel? Is he a killer, or some kind of a secret agent? And who are Diane and Gina really are?

The story is, luckily, not as simple as it looks, any movies involving a person going into amnesia phase usually are always intricate. And while the story could flow without hindrance (although with quite amount of plot holes) but the pace is pretty awful. Unnecessary scenes are provided, that only the filmmakers know what for, and if I could guess probably those scenes are there just to fill the running length. Since the jokes are not funny, and even the rest of the cast probably think (by looking at their facial expressions) that those jokes and quips (mostly made by Cedric) are also not something of hilarity. When watching a very forced joke in a movie, sometimes I saw myself and the rest of the audience laughed at it and not with it. However, listening and seeing the jokes in CN:TC won't make you do both, you just not laugh.

Moreover being a comedy taking a spy theme, fellow moviegoers might expect for some intense action. Well although the action scenes could not be said as intense, but at least it's on hand to spice up the movie. The weirdest part? The one with the cat-fight with bubbly bath inserts in between. This is what the filmmakers gotta make do with PG-13 rating as their goal.

Speaking of the cast, although their performances in this comedy film are not Oscar-material, still for the script they've been given, they still could do decent jobs. Cedric the Entertainer being the center of the film has a very nice personality and a likable character, but his quips are simply not amusing. Lucy Liu serves as a good side kick as the little bit crazy Asian hottie which makes her at least a noticeable character compared to the others. Mark Dacascos is present merely just to exhibit his martial arts skill as the antagonist, even that the action is not too intense. And Nicollette Sheridan besides giving decent acting quality, she donates candy for the men's eyes when wearing a sexy pink lingerie, and boy does she still hot as ever, nice job. No, she's not nude, still amusing though, believe you me.

If you're fan of Cedric, it's mandatory for you to check this one out. But for others, a cheap rent (and I mean really cheap) would be more than enough. Code Name: The Cleaner is not a bad movie, it's just not funny. So as a comedy movie, well I'm sorry to say, it is a bad one...
