The Movie Review
A movie like Colombiana is best seen if you haven't seen too many action films before. It delivers nothing new, obediently follows action-film-by-the-numbers guide book and will not be memorable other than a time waster... Nonetheless Colombiana is a good time waster.
Cateleya (Zoë Saldana of The Losers (2010)) is a 10-year old girl living in Bogota, Colombia and she is a live witness of the brutality that befalls unto her father and mother inflicted by thge ruthless Colombian Cartel leader, Don Luis (Beto Benites). Almost also got killed, Cateleya uses her parkour skill to escape Don Luis' men and to evade their bullets among the favella of Colombia.

Several years later, Cateleya is now living in Chicago with her uncle Emilio (Cliff Curtis of The Last Airbender (2010)) and working full time job as a femme fatale doing order after order eliminating criminal bosses and underground figures while in the same time making effort to deliver her revenge message to Don Luis. You see, every time she kills a target, she draws an outline of Cateleya Orchid on their chest. But only almost 2 dozen kills (on-screen kill scenes are only about 2 or three), the message/the challenge is finally received/accepted by Don Luis. But this drug lord is no ordinary enemy for he knows exactly who Cateleya is and his ties to CIA elevate the obstacle for Cateleya to avenge her parent's death.
Action fans will not be surprised of what Colombiana has to offer if they know the man behind it is none other than Luc Besson who was once again has prominent role in the production credits as Producer and Co-writer. Colombiana has the trademark of Luc Besson all over it with fast-pacing, action packed, loud explosive-y scenes and of course the femme fatale the deadly female assassin, Zoe Saldana who appears all out including good emotional acting in some scenes and/or appears nude/almost-nude in some other scenes.
Yes, even though Colombiana will not win any award soon from the story aspect and the end result is worsened by the rushed storyline with some scenes are just too hard to believe (like a kid using Parkour or a man sprays bullets onto random car and get away with while police are nearby), but it's a nice enough action. At least, boredom is not the word found in Colombiana. Colombiana's DVD is slated to be released on 20 December 2011, but I suggest you to just rent it first.
