In this time of the Dragons, Kendrick (Maclain Nelson) and his older & tougher brother, Darius of Elwood (Erik Denton) are forced to fled their current village after having been ransacked and burnt by a menacing dragon. They are traveling to a place where they can train together to fight those flying beasts. In the woods, they encounter a rag tag band of warriors led by charismatic man named Nathan of Albornai (Orlando Seale). The two groups almost eliminate each other. But after settling the misunderstanding, they agree to join force and go to a place named OrcHeart. A place which no man has ever laid foot for 100 years.
Darius is an experienced warrior/hunter and has been hunting the Orcs for 11 years since he was 14 years old and he has always been naggingly protective of her younger brother who is a kind but meek and inexperience. On their perilous journey, Kendrick bonds with Olick the Azurka (Isaac C. Singleton Jr.), a big man who can be possessed by animal spirit. And Darius has a crush on a petite archer Elf, Raya (Kelly Stables). They fight Orcs, save the villagers and also meet a wizard named Oswin which can cast a bursting spell from his hands and looked up as savior by the people. But could Oswin really help them? Will they able to kill the dragon? And why Darius is protecting his brother so much?
Hmmm... :-) should I start by saying this is the worst movie ever? No, I won't. Because Dragon Hunter is NOT the worst movie ever and it's not even the worst fantasy movie ever. Of course there is almost nothing original coming out of the story or the characters. And even though the low-budget aroma reeks strongly but the filmmakers has done good with what probably meager amount of capital they had. The acting is good, and that's very important. There are also drama with conflict, love, deception, betrayal and tragedy. The musical score is good, and the action scenes of fighting and slaying the CGI-dragon are ok. Of course the CGI is anything but ok for modern standard.
Of course if we are to talk about the flaws of a low budget film like this, it will take many paragraphs. I'm sure anyone will detect the flaws soon enough after a few minutes into the film. I am not recommending you to hunt for the movie or let alone seeing this in any cinema because the story might bore The Lord of the Rings (2001) fans and it does not present the viewers with enough shock values AKA no significant gore and zilch nudity. For me personally, I got this movie on a very cheap VCD worth of only half a dollar, which I don't regret it. So if you happen to encounter this movie aired on TV and you need a movie as just some sort of distraction while you doing other chore, then yes probably Dragon Hunter would be a good entertainment for fantasy film fans.
> You dig Dragon Hunter? These might be your stuff too: Harpies (2007) and Beauty and the Beast (2010).
