At the time of its released Freddy Got Fingered was so notorious for being labeled as the worst movie. Several months later, it won 5 Golden Raspberry Awards for worst director, worst actor, etc. Time went by and somehow some people and/or some websites keep on mentioning how awful this movie is and I really intrigued... I couldn't help it anymore... I have got to see this so-called bad movie. I'm curious to know just how bad this movie is, I knew it's a comedy... So my question is, is it not funny? Because yes, an ufunny comedy film is a fail one. So... is it sarcastic? Racist? Raunchy? What?! I guess, it's time now to watch the movie with mixed feeling of expectation. I don't know whether hoping to see a good one, or to see something that meets all those criteria of badness...
The movie revolves around a 28-year old guy named Gordon Brody (Tom Green). He's some kind of a skinny loser (not my word) who still hasn't got any job and only loves to play around. He daydreams to one day becoming an animator and having his own TV Show. But the problem is even though his drawing is good but his characters suck (also not my word). To support his life he's keep on bullshitting his parents pretending to have a job. Gordon is very different with his younger brother, Freddy (Eddy Kaye Thomas), who's more responsible and having a job at the bank.
Gord's daily activities indulge in many stupid things and bring only disaster to people around him. Soon enough his father (Rip Torn) is fed up with Gord's actions and often gets into feud with Gordy which eventually involving Freddy (thus the title, it'll be a spoiler if I tell you). One day, when Gordy is visiting his friend Darren (Harland Williams) with broken leg at the hospital --also because of Gordy-- he meets a very attractive handicapped nurse who is also an aspiring rocket scientist, Betty (Marisa Coughlan). Gord, ofcourse, make up a lot of lie about his work, but they two apparently go along very well. But will Betty ever find out about his lies? Could Gord be an animator like he's been dreaming of?
I fully understand why people (mostly critics) hate the movie. I too dislike it on some level, but frankly not because it's not funny or boring but because it's full of depravity and weird twisted fetishes. I laughed out loud a lot during my viewing time but admiting that at the same time I also felt somehow disgusted. Basically you're in between laughing at the jokes or laughing with them. And about the jokes, some of them are definitely not my cup of tea, and I'm sure they won't be most people's.
There's no such thing as wallowing in cliche for this movie of Tom Green. It's all about playing with many intangible imagination. Trying to do something both hilarious and shocking (even repulsive) all at the same time and then... Tom just tried to best (or worst depending on your taste) his previous efforts with something even more unimaginable, unpredictable and even unacceptable in ethical norms. Unless you are accustomed to his show, The Tom Green Show, or if you are at least feeling simply okay with materials of Jackass movies and/or Da Ali G Show, you'll be blown away by the content.
Just what is it that you're going to get from the movie? Many things that's surely a memorable viewing experience. Watching it with your buddies is a good choice since the movie deals with many things familiar to Tom Green's antics. Deer's carcass getting sliced and played, horse's pen!s, weird leg-hitting fetish, real video of wince-inducing surgical operation of Tom's himself (although only seen on TV in the movie) and other weird stuff involving father-and-son quarell. This is a comedy, and it could succcessfully make you laugh, and it is supposed to be that way for a movie from comedy realm. But Freddy Got Fingered has this upsude of being able to make you attached to the characters, either feeling sympathize or vice versa, but I assure you most of the time you're gonna feel both. But it's a good thing, because it won't make you feel bored, this excited feeling will be enhanced by the fast pacing. Even most of the subplots mean something to push forward the storyline.
So friends, watching the movie, you're mouth gonna gape, you're gonna laugh, disguested, shocked, ashamed of yourself, and amused and probably even touched in the end. If dead moose carcass, animal sperm, and other raunchy stuff are your cup of tea, believe you me, this one is a definite keeper.
