You got dumped, you got bummed. That what applies to most people. But for Chuck, you got dumped, you got luckeehh. Well the title says it all, Good Luck Chuck, but why would anyone be happy to get dumped so often? But before I review this comedy, I want to put forth that I don't have any inclination whatsoever to side that either loves Dane Cook or despises him. I just see him as an actor who star in this movie, and will rate his performance accordingly.
Alright, Dane Cook is the good luck chuck. Charlie "Chuck" Logan is an average guy who works as a dentist. He befriends Stu (Dan Fogler) who's got the most wonderful job in the world (other than movie reviewer of course ;-)), he's a breast surgeon, which means he got to see all kinds of breasts and which also means we got to see them too. In his childhood, Chuck hurt a little girl's heart for not wanting to expose his nipples to her, which in turns she hexed him. Now as an adult and successful dentist, he dates tons of women (can you count 108 girls in a short period not as a ton?), why makes him so popular is those women believe that after dating chuck and dumping him, they will get to meet the One who's going to be their real love and husband. Chuck is a o.k. with all this superstitious believe, until he meets Cam (Jessica Alba), a goofy penguin expert who takes Chuck's heart in the first sight. Of course, Chuck knows the danger of this situation, if he sleeps with her then he will loses her forever. But is the curse really real? If it does, what can Chuck do about it?
It's rather a funny irony, Jessica Alba is a relatively more favorable figure out there than Dane Cook, and her character, Murphy, in this movie is also much more interesting than Charlie, but she doesn't seem to suit Murphy well, yes she could perform as a goofy girl much more advanced than Julianne Moore in Evolution (2001), but the character, though interesting, but lacks the most charm it needs. It's hard to find lover chemistry between them, but then again realizing this movie is stronger on the comedy aspect than the romantic one, Dane and Jessica do have comedy chemistry, they more look like best friends who do naughty experimental thing. Sometimes in a movie, the performances of the supporting cast are more memorable (or more appealing) compare to the lead. I for sure like the appearance of Dan Fogler, as cliché as his character is as a sidekick, still he's good at it. The thing is about the character relationship, Murphy is not worth fighting for. Especially over tons of beautiful women waiting in line to sleep with Chuck.
Good Luck Chuck is at the core is non other than gross-out comedy with lotsa women skin in lotsa style. A real treat for guys this film truly is. And to conclude this review, Yes, this movie is insulting, rude, over-the-top, illogical and some of the jokes are totally demeaning. But, if you keep an open-minded, Good Luck Chuck is a good brainless entertainment.
