Every time I watch a movie, I always expect to have some fun. No matter what genre, each could give different kind of fun. If that fun comes from a great movie with spectacular effects, superb storyline backed by rich budget, then I am lucky to have watched it, but if that fun comes from ultimately cheesy effects, wallpaper-thin plot and poor budget? A bit shy to say, heck! Why not?

This absurd movie brings that fun, a brainless one and the one that made me gaping while also smiling. Harpies or in another title Stan Lee's Harpies is a Sci-Fi Channel original film. SCI FI Channel sometimes presents us with awful awful movies but sometimes it also gives us several dim-witted movies that give sheer fun like Lake Placid 2 (2007) for instance.

Harpies is about a security guard named Jason (Stephen Baldwin) who accidentally opens a time portal to the Dark Age while defending the museum from burglars. He got dumped into a pig pen complete with all the pig sh!t. A sassy but hottie woman named Celestia (Kristin Richardson) almost forks him to death, but Jason who still confused with all the situation instead asking her help to find a way into the big city. On his way, Jason is forced to fight with Blonde, Brunette and Sexy winged-creatures. Witnessed by the local heroes who wield only bows and arrows, Jason easily vanquish the blonde and sexy Harpies with his shotgun.

It turns out that, Harpies are often terrorizing the villages since the King himself is already tricked by his advisor to pet Harpies as his army of Blonde/Brunette/Sexy chicks. Finally a deal is finally made between Jason and the people there. They will help Jason find a way home if Jason is willing to go and kill the Harpies Master. For Jason is the chosen one, for he is The Harpy Slayer.

Growl!! I need my make-up now!!!

Do I always mention Blonde and Sexy? Oh, sorry since that's the only thing memorable from the Harpies ;-) Now, Would you look at that Harpy picture right above, kinda chic and hip Harpy heh? With all those bras and belt, that look like imported stuff right from Sex and the City :-)

Don't start to ask me whether the acting is Academy-thing. It's far from that, sorry. But I do really like how Stephen Baldwin seems to really enjoy playing in this movie. His charm saves this movie from ultimate boredom. And that also goes to Kristin Richardson who smiles most of the time which light the tone very much. If you know what you're getting into, don't get your hopes too high. Then probably, you could also enjoy this movie.
