He's burly, he's tough, he's strong, he has a weapon loaded with sperm, Sam Hell is his name. And he is... The Impregnator!
Welcome to Frogtown! Could you please leave your logic sense on the desk please ;-) A movie with wacky premise that's not to be missed for moviegoers searching for wacko flick from the 80's. What kind of premise that the Impregnator would present us. Simple as 1,2,3 but hilariously absurd. The world is in total destruction, the nuclear war has devastated human civilization leaving trails of debris and also sterile men. Mutants exist now, a hybrid of frog and human, but the normal humans threw them away in a wasteland called, The Frogtown. But lately the froggies/greeners of frogtown are causing trouble and arousing suspicion of the humans. They are now possessing firearms, which they use to kill people and furthermore, they also kidnap fertile young girls for their Commander Tody. What are they up to?
On the human world, we meet Sam Hell (Roddy Piper). A convict and an ex-soldier who despises the government. But he is offered complete erasure of his criminal record by the Med-Tech, a government hi-tech scientific agency, to do just one mission.... To locate the kidnapped girls and to impregnate them! Thus the title, The Impregnator. The government needs to do this because they need manpower, and there aren't too many people around anymore, so who'll carry the guns? And our hero Sam is entitled as one of the most fertile humans in the world. So Sam is then sent to Frogtown accompanied by Med-Tech agent, Spangle (Sandahl Bergman) and Corporal Centinella (Cec Verrell).
The Texas 'Ribbit' Massacre
But Sam is not gonna give up easily to Government's demand just like that, he would run away. And the Med-Tech knows this, so they put a special device on Sam's crotch that would explode if he tries to mess up the mission? Which means Sam's 'private part' is now company's equipment. Could this bizarre team accomplish their mission and populate the world?
I'm just gonna shoot straight. Does this action movie would bring you brainless entertainment? Yes, indeed. But does it live up to the sleazy premise? No, far from it. Hell Comes to Frogtown is a movie of pure brainless entertainment, there are not many things going on except that the pace is tight and the performance of Roddy Piper is amusing. He's that naughty, selfish and even childish grown up man that similar to Will Ferrell's characters. The atmosphere of HCtF is a relaxing one, and even though the movie is stupid but the jokes are quite clever, there are many funny one-liners by Roddy. 'Yeah, I sign the contract! To Fu*k for freedom!
The cast performance is good as well, Eyde Byrde as Officer Patton, Rory Calhoun as Looney Tunes and Sandahl Bergman's awkward striptease act. And one of the important things, the look of the frog-men are great, hilarious and at the same time quite disgusting. Wait until you see Arabella, the prima donna of the Frogtown. The musical score is crazy too, the one that's typical to 80's and 90's war comedy movies.
However to think that you're gonna see a lot of T&A because of the premise that Roddy would sleep with many sexy girls are just wrong. We got to see Cec Verrell opens her uniform and a bit of see-thru blouse of some girls, but that's it. Good thing that the action is good enough, not too intensely distracting. Simple action-comedy cult film with some effective jokes and some are not, is what this movie is. Overall, Hell Comes to Frogtown is just a fun post-apocalyptic flick. Renting would be enough.
> This film however, is the first entry of a quadrilogy. It's followed by Return to Frogtown (1993), Toad Warrior (1996), and Max Hell Frog Warrior (2002).
> If you want to see the widely-known versions of the theme, visit: Escape from New York (1981) and Escape from L.A (1996). But if you want the extreme version of 'hero-seeking-fertile-women', it's Umberto Lenzi's 2019: After the Fall of New York (1983).
