Some of you who live in a big city must have known the inherited horror of the term Hit & Run. Hey, it could happen to anybody right? So it's a bit clever if filmmakers decide to take advantage of everyday horror into their movie. One might think that it would be a great horror flick. However, there are many variables stand as major key factors to the overall entertainment quality of a movie. Have you watched Stuck which based on a true story, well, that flick fails. How about Hit & Run?
Mary Murdock (Laura Breckenridge) is driving alone to her house after a spring break party despite her boyfriend's, Rick, objection. Avoiding an object on the road, Mary loses control over his jeep, fortunately she isn't hurt. Mary then finally at home, cleans herself and hits the sack. Later that night she goes back to the garage and to her utmost shock finds a man dangling and bleeding on the bumper of her jeep. Terrified, Mary makes a very wrong decision, to bury that poor guy in the woods. Mary soon will regret this when she's then mysteriously followed by an unknown person. Or is it really just her guilt that haunts her?
Hit and Run, I’m pretty sure, is a low-budget horror film, and so the storyline and how it unfolds are pretty critical. The biggest responsibility lies on Laura's back. I could even say this horror movie is a One Woman Show. Gladly she could live up her character which being troubled, paranoid, and hysterical for most of the time. But the highest upside surely comes from the script, that although the premise is extremely simple, it could make the movie entertaining in a creepy way. Not to forget the camerawork that lets the audience enjoy the show, feel frightened but still could follow every thing happen in Hit and Run.
As the good factors exist so that the bad ones...The filmmakers seem to prolong the story and add some additional points where everything is already suppose to end. And this is a humorless horror movie, with no comic relief or something like that to add the entertainment value. But it’s just a matter of taste. If you are in the mood for a serious movie, Hit and Run would worth a rental. It’s easily forgettable though since the premise is old and there is nothing new. Still as a movie of its own, Hit and Run stands above mediocrity.
