Horror movies with Scarecrow always intrigue me. Probably the feeling I share with some Indonesians since a horror situation pertaining Scarecrow is un-common in our country. This time I'm gonna review another good independent horror film coming from After Dark production company, so probably one day TV stations in Indonesia would have another option rather than always playing Children of the Corn (1984) or Jeepers Creepers (2001)!

Several friends are heading for a holiday through a very empty street which was actually a private road. Their car crash due to such inexplicably eerie phenomenon but the strange thing is that when their car crashes they're all knocked unconscious and when they wake up, suddenly they find their friend Johnny (Ben Easter) is missing without any clue! Assessing the situation with the day is closing in to evening, they are forced to seek refuge to an old farm house in the middle of the high cornfields. Basically these eerily empty cornfields cover most of the area and there is no other way to go to the house without crossing it.

Natalie (Tammin Sursok) and Chris (C.J. Thomason) are waiting in the wrecked car while the geeky Scott (Devon Graye) and the jock Brian (Wes Chatham) are trying to venture into the house and they find several other dead crows and scary-looking scarecrow which reeks unpleasant smell. Upon entering the house they are shocked of what they find but they are definitely not prepared to what they're about to see in the upper floor...

After Dark strikes again... There are always several great titles in every selection coming from After Dark HorrorFest annual horror film festival. I enjoy this horror film and seemingly this type of film would go unnoticed so I feel a bit obligated to inform the horror fans. Husk is a supernatural horror movie and to fully enjoy this serious horror, it requires for you to be open-minded of dealing with the writer's fantasy because some of the scenes are just illogical but if you can enjoy it for the sake of mere amusement, then you will find Husk is an engaging film. There is no nudity and the gory level is not that high although some scenes are too strong for the squeamish. Husk offers an alternative in the cliché horror plot where the hero is always a girl. In Husk, it doesn't matter who dies first, because the characters and the story is engaging.

What makes Husk better than average is the acting capacity of the cast and the minimum use of music/score. The sounds of crows and other critters and ambient sound are effective! Those aspects in Husk makes the situation feels more gravely serious and there is this feeling of unsettling and disturbing about the atmosphere. But like I said before being open-mindedness is important because the movie is dealing with a bit of memory time travel, still Husk oozes this feeling of emptiness but menacing and full of mystery. Husk is a good option for horror fans.
