Rarity does imbue curiosity. Invasion of the Blood Farmers is a very rare piece of exploitation from the 70s and it's also rarely mentioned in any lists on the net. For movie buffs who love offbeat cinema and feel curious about obscure horror from the past, Invasion of the Blood Farmers may just be a title that you don't want to miss, although I assume that you're already familiar with this type of lower class B-movie (low class even for B-movie!). So, after the opening session of "hospitality" by exploitation director, Fred Olen Ray and his friendly conversation involving topless girls, off we go to this rare horror film.

Invasion of the Blood Farmers tells about a group of devil worshippers called the Sangrae Druids AKA Sangroid who makes a come back to the modern civilization after their disappearance from the face of the Earth for centuries in order to once again commit blood sacrificial ritual to bring back their Queen Onhorrid (Cynthia Fleming)!

And then the story skips to a local bar in a quiet small town called Jefferson Valley where a man named Cliff Storm is b*tching out to the bartender, Artie, about him feeling depressed over the missing of his wife, Helen. Helen has been missing for two weeks now without a trace. And then suddenly one of Artie's loyal customer, Jim Carrey, storms in the bar in a literally bloody condition which freaks out pretty much everyone. Oh yeah, and then he dies of course (what else?). Afterwards the blood sample of the deceased Jim Carrey is taken to the laboratory of a pathologist named Dr. Roy Anderson (Norman Kelley) which he examines it with the help of his protégé/future son-in-law Don Tucker (Bruce Detrick). Don is, however, currently occupied by something else... his love for Roy's daughter, Jenny Anderson (Tanna Hunter). Not for long Dr. Roy discovers a very creepy phenomenon about the blood sample, apparently the blood is constantly doubling in quantity over time and Dr. Roy & Don Tucker could only imagine how horrible Jim Carrey had suffered because as Dr. Roy himself states "This will either be a major milestone in Pathology or a major disaster to mankind"

The dormant Queen Onhorrid, Egon, Lord Creton and Sontag

But it seems Dr. Roy Anderson and Don Tucker have to set their mind on something else too, because 2 guys are coming from out of town (hillbilly farmers) to search for Dr. Roy house and then one of them, Egon (Jack Neubeck), even dare to put a horrible terror on them by drinking the blood of Jenny's dog, Buster. At first, this incident seems like a work of a mere madman, but they have to be very cautious, because Egon is a part of the Druids cult led by Lord Creton (Paul Craig Jennings) and Sontag/Woodrow Kinski (Richard Erickson) who is no other than Dr. Roy's colleague at the university. What will happen to Dr. Roy Anderson and his family?

The honeymooners. The man is the director Ed Adlum

Police chief who talks like a mob boss, bubbling blood which looks more like hot strawberry juice in the lab, obsessed close-up shots of the expression-less Artie the bartender (WTF man!), a dude covered in blood sticking his tongue out, shower scene inspired by Pyscho (1960)... Hmmm, this is indeed an exploitation movie. Interestingly though, it's not as bad as it may sound or look, at least it didn't put me to sleep. Because even though the material is weird, the acting is mostly awful (some are really decent though namely Norman Kelley), no humor at all to behold, but at least the pace is steadily fast and the writer is being honest in a sense that he didn't put many meaningless scenes just to skip being a short film. There are some scenes that could be easily edited out, but it doesn't affect much.

What is weird though is the rating of PG! You kiddin' me? It should've been rated R or PG-13 at least for its quite disturbing portrayal of dog-slaying, a woman got her blood drained out, a girl got her head thumped by Egon, and relatively-disturbing ritual of the cult. No nudity here but there is also no humor which means the bloody scenes are made to scare the viewers. I'm not saying you can get scared, but still... PG, really? While the movie is also the subject of Ban the Sadist Videos! (2005). But the important thing is, that Invasion of the Blood Farmers is not worth your time, and I only recommend this for completists only. Invasion of the Blood Farmers is not so-bad-it's-good... It's just bad although definitely not the worst.

> If you want to see a horror film about evil farmers but still very entertaining: Motel Hell (1980).

> For more (much more) entertaining version of this deadly cult: Blood Diner (1987).
